K-MEMBER and I found a "pair of Buddy Holley's glasses" in a gold chainers GTO during restoration. Was a big joke til the chainers kid told us they were for real. The old man paid big bucks at auction, had the paperwork. Have later heard they ain't that rare.........OLDBEET

That is Peggy Sue in the picture next to the car, shes a really cool lady with about 20 rings on her ears, she write a column in a newspaper in texas to this day.It was somebody elses girlfriend at the time.
There wasn't a name on the plane, just numbers . It crashed at about 1 in the morning & they didn't find it till 9:45 or so that day.
Not to step on any toes here & to go out on a limb i'have to say that Holly was the real loss out of the 3,everyone to this day is still influenced by his music, he was the first"real" rock & roller & not what"madison Ave" wanted.
to really step on toes even more I have to say i was never impressed with elvis besides his voicehe didn't ahve much talent, just a big backup.I think Holly had real talent & we never got the full potential of his genuis.Valens & Richardson where one hit wonders & if they didn't died we probably wouldn't even rememeber them.
I know this is going to put a bad taste in alot of peoples mouths but if you really think about it its true.

Truly a shame, i often wish i would have been alive during those days but I wasn't born until 1966. Always dug that era. Thankful ol' Waylon wasn't on the flight because he has always been one of my favorites.

    RIP

I thought it was Willie Nelson that made the statment about the plane Crashing.
Yes I remember that day, I was in ninth grade, live about 50 miles from Clear Lake.

Buddy had an amazing but short career. I visited the Buddy Holly Center in Lubbock last year on the aniversary of his death and was amazed at how far away some people came to pay him tribute.

  17. JimV, the Beechcraft Bonanza is a low wing plane. Cessna single engine planes are high wings.

I was one of hundreds of teenagers at the Prom Ballroom in St. Paul, MN that saw Buddy, Richie & The Big Bopper in one of thier last performances. The Prom had a big dance floor & most everybody danced to their music. No mosh pit though! The beautiful old ballroom is gone too, and I'm 66 years old. Where does the time go???

    That's a great story :)

I photographed the crash site and memorial for a job a couple weeks ago. It's really worth going to see if you're in the Clear Lake area... I know a lot of people traveling north through Iowa to BTT50s in Minneapolis make a stop there.

When I go into work on Monday I'll get the pictures I took of the memorial at the crash site and post them for anyone who is interested.

G'Day All. I was just 14 yrs when the music died, I have a cpoy of That'll Be The Day and Think It Over on the flip side, on a Decca 78 and a copy of Thunder Road by Robert Mitcham on 45,which wasn't released in this country.
That kind of music is still played here, real Rock and Roll.
