A little inspiration for you... This thing really does it for me. Titus' T could be as cool or cooler with its old green paint...
Don't chop it, the wacky tall look is unique. Chopping a tall T removes the character. Its like cutting the fins off a 59 Caddy, taking the horse collar off an Edsel or eliminating the Studebaker bullit nose. I thought the idea was to be unique. Why get lost in a sea of cookie cutter chops. Wish mine was stock height. But unfortunately it was chopped in the early 60s for a racecar project that was never finished.
I plan on taking 5" out of mine, enough to get rid of that goofy looking header panel above the windshield but still a tiny bit of headroom. Being unique is great, but I think the proportions are so much better with a little chop. Thanks for the tire sizes!
Because stock is so unique.... lol I had a post with mine photochopped 6" 7" and 8" somewhere awhile back. It might be useful to dig up. I went 7.5" and am sectioning the header 2". I also cut the rear window three ways, above 1 1/4" below 1 3/4" and through the middle 4" so it doesn't have that useless mail slot rear window. I can get pics of the car now if you want them. I don't have the pics anymore because that hard drive fried but maybe it's still on here. Edited to add the link to the post.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=136073
Everytime I see one unchopped I think of the 70's streetrods I like the race car look of about a 4-6 inch chop. not Too cartoony low but not too cartoony tall either. I also kinda like the goofy panel but I like it covered with the long T visor. but thats all just me
Looking great - tasteful! I say chop it, straight - same front and back. Thanks for sharing the photos, info, and tool tips with us. Malcolm
What'll those boys next door in Pima County think of next......Hey, I like it! You have done and are doing some realy nice work there. ENJOY!
Here is a shot of Bob Bleed's T-rantula in progress. Not the best pic but you can see where it was cut at. I talked to Bob about it and he said it was harder than you would think to chop because of the taper built into the door posts and the side windows.
There is a guy in walnut , ca that makes reproductions. I have seen them and they are real good copies. Contact Bill at OTB Gear, 20452 Carrey Road, Walnut, CA 91789 (909) 595-4995. www.obtgear.com The prices are good too! godredger/Dave B
The tapers are exactly the opposite of what you would expect. The top actually gets wider as it goes up. And the window glass tracks are on a still different outward angle. Nothing easy about it. And a good argument for leaving it tall.
I think one of the most difficult deals with choppin my T, was the window panes (look in the picture above) you have to cut them completely out cut a strip out thats about 1/2 inch then weld them back together to get the tracks to line up it wasn't really difficult just very time consuming.
Here's the few pics I have taken of mine so far. It is an easy chop.... sorry it is. Planning cuts in the posts is the most difficult part. It takes several cuts to make the posts line up like they should and not LOOK like they've been chopped. Patience is a virtue on finishing. I can get better pics sometime but these give you some idea. I marked out most of the cuts on the front posts since after finishing the welds you can't see them. There are like 2 more but you can't see those in the pic. You want to make the bottom of the post match the top, don't try and make the top of the post match the bottom, it won't look correct. That's on the A-Pillars The B-pillars are all together different. I'll get some pics of those if someone wants to see what I did there.
I recently purchased this 27 T Coupe. I believe the roof was chopped 12"-13". Not much of a windshield but I like the look!
I say leave it tall. My .02 though-reconsider the wheel/tire combo if you leave it tall. For tall T's, I think the wheel/tire combo needs to be tall and skinny like the body. For a shorter and wider wheel/tire combo, a little chop would look better.
Alex, great looking T! I love everything about it. I think those T's look great with the roof at standard height, don't chop it. If you're after a more agressive look have you considered channeling it more instead? Heres a couple of photoshop jobs I did for you. Don't ask how much I've dropped the body, I just went down till it looked about right.
I get the feeling that this T coupe is like the red head step child nobody wants. It just keeps getting new foster parents.
