Did'nt he make whole gl*** merc bodys and some parts? I searched high and low on google and can not find any info on any one selling any thing like this any more. I know there is a guy north of me with a gl*** winfield car but i only see him at 1 show a year and its not for months. And about 6 years ago i saw a roller on ebay. But since then i have not heard any more about them. Any info would be great.

  2. he did make full gl*** bodies. i think they're still available.(661) 824-4728 here's his number.

  3. A local here bought a Winfield front end that I found for him. S****ped the idea because the fit and quality were so ****ty. I have seen 3rd grade paper mache projects that were better.

  4. On a better note, I ordered the same guy a California grill bar from Gene and it was very nice with good chrome.

I saw a chopped merc this past weekend at the bearing burners car show that said winfields custom on the quarter window. The thing was so smooth I told my friend that it had to be one of the fibergl*** bodies. Never did ask anyone though.

There was that yellow one from Mich and Im sure that that chopped clone of the Wolfe car that he just did was gl*** also so theres two gl*** Winfield mercs at least.

His name is Chuck Renolds and him and his wife Maureen are friends of mine. He did a Matranga Clone about 5 years ago too.

Back in 93 the KKOA gave away one of the P&J bodies and it was purple, I think it went to IL....turned out to be a pretty nice car.

The car your thinking of is the one denise mentioned, it belongs to Chuck Reynolds. He had at the bearing burners show last sunday.

I just found out today that Gene recently bought a chopped & sectioned 51 Merc that I did back in about 85. I lost it in a divorce & my ex sold it for $1500.00 to a "buddy" of mine. It had a 4.5"chop & 4" section w/ a L88 427 in it. After she sold it a big tree fell on it & he tried to replace the back window area w/ a 50 style & about 10 gallons of bondo. Serves him right!! I never got to finish the project, but all the hard work was done. Maybe a gl*** clone in the works?

Find yourself a copy of car kulture De Luxe fall 2005 issue #13. Page 34. It shows a couple of those bodies at his shop!

When those first came out (about 1988 or 89) they were about $8k. No ch***is. I thought about getting one because you couldn't duplicate all that work in steel for that price.

Gene recommended the 70's era Olds ch***is for that body.

Keep in mind that price is from almost 20 years ago. It would be interesting to see how much the price has changed due to inflation and the growth of the hobby.

I had originally thought about a gl*** body for my Merc so I took a trip up to Gene's to look at what he was building. Gene is a great metal man and he built some really cool movie props, but there is no way that I would buy one of his bodies with the intent of putting on the road. The molds that he has were pulled off a custom he built and they are not dimensionally correct. The quality of the gl*** work is poor, many voids in the gl*** and far too much resin. I have photos that I took of bodies at his place in the build process and can send them to anyone who might be interested, send me a PM. I am not trying to trash Gene, he does a lot of great custom work, but building fibergl*** bodies that are roadworthy is not his strong point. Buy a metal body, they are still available and a lot cheaper than the gl***.
