  8. Hopefully, if you're right, he'll read this thread. I was always under the impression that as popular it was, that noone made a tripower in aluminum. I can't remember ever seeing one, you? Hey, check #6. If my carbs are big base, i'll spring the $350

Curious what you don't like about the "Look" on our Six-Shooter system? The pricing is actually very reasonable considering guys are selling reworked originals for more money that do not make near the power of ours.

Groucho...give the guys at Exceter Auto a call at 559 592-2707 or look at his page http://www.exeterautosupply.com/. He has all the original Offy stuff and pretty good prices and service. These guys are old line rodders and are H.A.M.B. friendly.

If you want to ruin the resale value of the one you have, you can grind off the factory BS and have it powder coated real cheap.

The thermostat housing is cast iron on this intake. I did the aluminum intake and the T.H. so that they would match. I plan to do the same thing on a factory 4BBl intake on an engine that nobody makes a performance intake for. An hour with a die grinder and 20 mins in the oven and viola... an unobtainium aluminum intake. Tell 'em it's a one off factory prototype.:D

During the 50s the factory GM dual 4bbl aluminum manifolds for Chevy were made by Weiand. Maybe they made others as well.

"dmarv" dan marvin of exiter auto is the offy guy he's also an alliance vender

  16. The original BG's looked like a "performance" carb. I understand Holley made you change the look? But, not to look like some sort of a space shoe! YUCK. Ya coulda spent a little more time on the look, it's HORRIBLE. I like my hot rod parts to look like hot rod parts. I guess the street rod guys must love that goofy look, and that's where your money is probably. I've used 3 BG's (12 sec and 2 10 sec cars) and they all ****ed compared to the Holley. Lack of performance, dead spots, etc. I really would love to try one on the original BG's(send one 750 if you've got one). Anyway, i believe your tripower's around $2300? I figure at $350 for the intake, $300 for fuel lines and linkage, that's over $550 for each TWO BARREL carb! For another $50 i can get an HP 750 Holley (a pretty dam good piece). Or, I can put a BLOWER on the SOB for another 25 cents (an e**ageration to make my point).

  17. Rick, Offy shows they only have a 61-64 Tri-Power intake

NO you don't!!!!....I had bought a BG 750 DP (Claw)when they first came out.(You know, the ones that looked like the Holley, but had BG cast in the main body) Absolute ****ing JUNK! ...It pulled strong.....but overall drivability ****ed, idled like ****, etc.....Another old timer I met with a 10 sec. Luv pickup had one too at one time and when he saw I had one told me to "Get rid of that damn carb"...he knows his carbs and could never get it right, even after sending it back to BG a DOZEN times.....bad castings or something....
He said "throw a HOLLEY 750 Dominator on it, son, and you'll be fine".....good advice.....
I sold the BG at a swapmeet and went with a Holley....I'll NEVER own another BG product again.......

Guys, Offy doesn't make, and never will make a Tri-Power intake that fits '65 or later Pontiac heads. You either buy the aluminum repro I posted, or go without.:(

  21. The one you posted is a bargain (to me anyway) for $350. I have to look, but i think my carbs are small base and won't fit that intake. I'll go out and look this morning. I hope it'll work. I'll order one TODAY if it'll take my carbs

  22. I thought so. If the BG's were worth their weight, you'd see a lot more of them in the pits at the drag strip

Offenhauser never made a 3x2 manifold for the later (65-up) Pontiac engines. By this time in racing, the four barrel carbs had taken over and multiple 2 barrel manifolds were losing favor in the racing circuits so Offenhauser designed everything for the later Pontiac engines for 4 barrel carbs.
