Carb is a Holley 3310 s with manual choke and vaccum secondaries on a mild cammed 460 with a 60 gph fuel pump.

I need help guys, Im not much of a carb guy, so I'm hoping one of the HAMB's great minds can help.

I went out to drive my dodge to work today, and it was missing badly and running incredibly rich. I took the air cleaner off, and noticed that there was a large amount of gas dumping into the secondaries, even at idle. Not spraying in, but dripping. After the engine is turned off, this continues for about a minute.
I have been driving it around for about a month running perfectly, and the carb is brand new.

    any ideas??

    thanks guys.

that is a 750 cfm, vac. secondary right ?
if gas is dripping into the secondaries, i would say that it's possible that a small peice of dirt is in the needle & seat, or the float for the secondaries is stuck down a little bit...maybe from a tiny peice of dirt or rust...it doesn't take a very big peice for this to happen. (which would not allow the needle & seat to close and shut off gas being supplied to the secondary side of the carb.) the end result is that the carb is flooding over on the secondary side, and gas is dripping down the carb.

That usaually indicates the floats are set too high. Try using those clear plastic sight plugs,as a tuning aid. Set the levels just slightly below the edge of the hole,at idle. I have always replaced them with the brass plugs, when done, just as a precaution of the plastic splitting(rare) on a running hot engine. Haynes make a good holley tuning book, with more details on this .. Sparky:D

Although you are talking about a new carb, I have seen a common mistake in rebuilding Holleys and that is some require a small o-ring/gasket as well as the usual rectangular gaskets between the bowls, metering plates and main base. Leave out that little o-ring and you end up with half a bowl of gas sitting in the intake manifold when you stop the engine as well as poor running-too rich.

I would go with beetlejuice. You said it "was" running ok? Take a 5/8 wrench and unscrew needle and seat. Then blow it out , sometimes when you pull the seat out, the dirt will fall out before you see it. If you dont touch the top screw you shouldnt have to even reset it. But it never hurts to check then when you are done.

tried that, clean as a whistle. tried adjusting the floats as per the instructions on the holley website. still no go. I nedd to work on carbs more I guess. I've always been lucky and they work good right out of the box.

    any other ideas?

I've gotta get this thing on the highway asap cause I'm driving it to paso in a couple weeks. Anyone in santa rosa area that could help out??? I don't expect a freebie, and would be very appreciative.

Yeah I was about to say check the floats... I had mine go bad on my old 54 Chevy Sedan. Had a pin hole in them and would fill with gas and cause it to run like crap and flood out...
