a couple months ago we (at Allways Hot Rods) met a new customer, and took on the job of preparing a 55 chevy for the gumball 3000. If you have never seen this race, www.metacafe.com , and there is a bar at the top. The small job we took on turned into a huge project. We agreed to swap the sbc, and install a B&M blower. The car came to us from a transmission shop who had been attempting to install a tremec 6 speed. They had the mechanical clutch linkage all boogered up, and they had kept the transmission because it locked up in second gear. We had three weeks till the shipping date to England. We pulled the motor, and swapped the parts onto the new 383 short block, installed a hydraulic clutch system, and stuck it all back in once we had the trans. We fought the clutch master, and weak repro clutch pedal, and finally got the car running with one day till the transporter was comming! On the first test drive the trans would not go into 2nd gear! Much work later it was decided that the customer would DRIVE the 6 speed back to Tremec, to have it rebuilt, and we would have a friend deliver the car to Huston for the freight ship. We made it with no time to spare! The race started sunday, with this Loud 55 a**** some of the most expensive super cars in the world. At one point they had the 55 at a steady 155 mph alongside an enzo! All was going well mechanically which made us happy. However late last night between Athens and Tirana, they spun the car into a guard rail on a mountain road. All that work, and it may be destroyed! they say that the whole front of the car is trashed. I will post pics of the damage if I get any. this was one of the most fun cars I have ever driven, tons of power and it handled well for a mostly stock suspension! We have tons of late nights, and weekends in this car and I hope you guys enjoy this.
I love the Gumball. Those guys really know how to party, granted they are all loaded little brats, but they can still party.
we got lucky the owner was not taking the car on the race... His brother in law took the car, and footed the bill. Including the motor and trans!
i think it would be cool to build a mid 50s drifter, not just a hot motor in a old car ,but really go to town on the front-end & ch***ie.no crazy paint just something simple.maybe 2 tone...
Since the ***le of this thread had the words "American Hot Rod" in it, I thought it was another Boyd bash. To my dismay it wasn't.. Back on topic.. neat car. I'd like to see some video of that runnin' with an Enzo
Lol! Not all of us are 'loaded little brats', some of us saved up and worked extra to take part in the best party on wheels in the world. Become a Gumballer and you are accepted by the rich and famous Gumballers as a fellow traveller. It is a very exclusive club. But to be a good Gumballer, you need to be able to drive 50 hours straight, take your traffic fines on the chin and then party some. Of course, you also need to convince Maximillion Cooper that your entry, for one of the 120 places, is better than any of the other thousands of applications he receives. News in today is that a Porsche was wrecked in Macedonia and, of course, the sad news that the
Hope the numbnuts who hit and ran are jailed in a bottomless pit in Macedonia with a large crowd of ***** Muslims.
Hey, I was the brother in law who funded the car and drove the rally with my co-driver. He was the one who spun out by the way. The car is currently being prepared to be shipped back now and should be back in AZ in several weeks. As far as we can tell the damage was the right front quarter panel and a bent axle. Should be easy to repair
it's not safe....but is anything reeeally fun safe? I wanna do it so bad. I am completely Jealous. time for secrets- what were y'all running for a rear end ratio?
hey devilcustom. i see you are a well educated and understanding person. Denigrate all by the actions of one, sure you are quite intelligent
HEY! Enough of that. we all do something that someone else thinks is wrong. ( Hunting, driving fast, public ************,eating pork, wearing white after labor day, etc, etc, etc) but the point is.... C'mon,Man! what's the rear end ratio? what's a little thing like that between you and 30,000 other car guys (and gals)?
sorry I didnt chime in, but spd got to it. The car was rather stock. just discs on the front, and a modern power booster. Last time I spoke with Jae, the he was attempting to have the car delivered directly to our shop. Once it clears customs and gets here, we will get some pictures up. nice to hear from you spd, thanks for posting.
yes i where intelligent and understanding But when some idiots come to Europe and drives like idiots in200mph on a 70 mph road i dont think is fun But maybe some Europes can come and drive like idiots in your neighberhood
