Here it is, a little further now. Got the engine/trans mounted, trans crossmember built, F100 steering in position, '39 pedals mounted, clutch linkage workin'. Working on the body mounts now. Next will probably be to complete the steering set up. Tires are 600's all around right now. Eventually they will be 450's in front and 750's in rear. Again, Ionia Hot Rod (Ionia, MI) built the perimeter frame w/X member which is sitting under a Brookville body (obvious I guess). I am trying to take care of the rest. Its hard work, but I can't wait to work on it every night after comin' home from the day job. Mike
Looks great Mike, Glad to see it coming along. No hood I take it? Trans. mounts look nice! Matt BTW, this is the frame.
Hey Mike, I'm in Royal Oak putting together a 28 myself. I've got some questions about mounting the body to a non standard (kickup rear) frame. Think an offer of a couple of beers could convince you to drop by and offer some input? PM me please.
Thanks guys, means a lot coming from all of you. Matt, maybe a hood top - but that would be down the road anyways. Chad, sent you a PM. I'd really like to see your project also. Mike
lookin good! heres a picture of mine...maybe it can help you in some way?? i have 6.00 and 7.00 tires on this keep up the good work Zach
Man, you're off to a great start. We got to meet the Ionia dad & son at Pomona this year, they're a class act and do wonderful work. Keep us posted on your progress.
Always loved a nice model a on a 32 frame.. That is what i shoulda done rather than the 32 on a 32 frame project thats not going anywhere I gotta make a decision soon its taking up space Any way looks great cant wait to see it finished. Oh ya my favorite a body on a 32 frame was anything that Magoo built.. Dave
The car looks great! Question: What is going on with the clutch? Looks like you extended it out from the tranny a bit and are you running the clutch pedal through a hole it the X member?
Thanks again guys. SUHRsc - I have been collecting pics of your car(s) for about three years now that you have posted on the HAMB. I love your build style and quality. You have already been a big inspiration for this project. Detonator - Yes, from my experience Denny and Matt Lesky (Ionia Hot Rod) are great fabricators, have perfect taste in Hot Rods, and run a quality business that they put their heart and soul into. The best in other words. Eyeball - Yes, you got it. The X member had a slightly different angle than the '39 pedals do. I ended up mounting the forward bolt holes of the pedal bracket on the inboard side of the X member and the rearward bolt holes on the outboard side of the X member to get it straight. It just required a couple of small angled standoffs to make it work right. And your right the clutch release lever had to be lengthed to reach the pick-up on the pedal. I welded a nut on the end of the clutch release shaft and used a bolt on the outboard end of the extended lever to help take some of the additional load due to the increased momemt arm. I think it can be cut down by about an inch now though - still gotta do that. Also, I had to fabricate a clutch pedal arm (I didn't want to tear up my original '39 clutch arm). I made it operate right through a hole in the X member - so I didn't have to tear up the X member at all. Got lucky I think on that one. Maybe a better picture is better than me trying to explain it all!! Try this one. (and by the way, there is better clearance in reality than shows in the picture between the oil filter housing on the block and the steering box). Mike
Are you afraid of scattering the tranny with a sb chevy? Seems a Muncie would make more sense for the same amount of dollar? Mike
mike, if theres anything i can do to help....ask away or come to the jalopy showdown next saturday....probably only an 8 hour drive.... Zach
Cool, I am using a 37 PU X in my 32 and have the same problems. I think I may be slightly closer the the center of the frame and my pedal (at this point) is on top of the x member. I will have to get the motor and tranny in to see where the clutch will be engaging at.
