Thanks for your advice, but still unsure of what I want to do, but I guess I dont have much of a choice since the cars I wanted sold and the 3rd is a 52 ford conv project , but having trouble getting a price.

"The only people who think cars arent investments are 4 door owners!"
Thats prolly true, because too me seems like the prices on alot of car sky rocketed in only a couple years, for example my dream car a 58 impala conv, few years ago can get a done 1 for 50 grand, now they sell from anywhere from 70-130000 grand because 1 guy was willing to pay 130000 at barret jackson.

Barrett Jackson is not the real world. You should be watching it for entertainment purposes only, not for "appraisel" purposes.

I've had a few convertibles and they can be fun. When it isn't 110 degrees outside and you aren't being blinded by the sun, which is most of the time in Texas.

"Most of the time convertible prices are alot higher, so if you start with a hardtop you be getting into it for less and have more to spend on kustomizing it."

I already have a full kustom 53 merc, and basically all left to cut up is the roof. And dont really need much money for parts for kustomizing, 56 Packard lights should be on there way, I got set of 57 caddy hubcaps and 56 fiestas, lincoln push buttons, 60 impala wheel and prolly some other stuff waiting to go on something else. Just need the money for the something else.

And carson tops are alright but I wouldnt want to do it to my car, for example I would like to go to Gettysburg,4-5 hour trip, and I would like to have the top off on the way there but wouldnt have any room for the carson top in case I needed if they called for rain or sumthing, so I got to keep the top on for long trips might as well just chop my roof and have a cool look

  10. Let's see, $75-$100 an hour for therapy or Pontiac Converible that's paid of and gaining equity................... The chioce is easy for me. I'd miss the heck out of my car if I ever we two should part. Leaks and drafts aside.

If the top goes down, the price goes up.

yea they are over rated, and overpriced, even roadsters, but for short periods, in certain areas, they are the greatest ride. the thing that makes them so hi priced is because they are 'parade cars'. this has been the main thing that has caused the higher value. But theres nothin like blowin thru the canyon to the beach or chasing vettes up the mountains in a deuce roadster is an experience you cant forget.

I had convertables over 1/2 my life, not for everyone but a lot of fun, get one with air and have the best of both worlds. Leave the top up on hot days and down at dark.

  16. Don,t know about over rated but you can be damn sure I wish I still had my 68 RS Camaro convertible as well as my 69 Malibu rag.....

I love convertibles. I have had a bunch and will always have one. Nothing like top-down cruising in the summer.

Guess I'm the odd ball, as far as convertibles go. I don't like them at all, except to look at. They're noisy at highway speeds, lousy body integrity (rattles) and I can't stand the sun beating down on me for hours at a time (yeah, we DO get some sun in Upstate NY !).

For driving, give me a mid-30's coupe or a 50's sedan and I'm in hog heaven!

Driving a ragtop is a totally different driving experience. You are part of the world, not just viewing it. You see & hear things you never would in a closed car. Drive a mountain road in a coupe, come back the other way in a roadster, you will see a huge difference.

And by the way, a sunroof doesn't cut it.

I have a '59 Coupe and a '60 Conv. You can't beat the convert for sun. Even in the heat (the '59 doesn't have A/C). -Mike
