Well its 2 AM and I cant sleep because both of my arms are itching like crazy from a severe case of poison oak, not to mention the amount of unknown fluid seeping out too, anyway I got poison oak from walking through a wooded junkyard monday. And it got me thinking just now, what bad things has happened to other people while going through junkyards or picking up cars? Ive been attacked by bees while picking up a 59 Edsel. Got my thumb caught in a winch one time, car slipped of the jack and the jack handle smacked me in the head really hard another time, got alittle to close to a bull that was by a 46 Ford coupe in a field one time, didnt get hurt but it freeked me out. Followed by all sorts of other bad cuts and injurys, anyway whats happend to you?

Not me, but a Lynnwood, Wa. self help wrecking yard where a 16 year old yard employee was helping to pull an engine with a tripod hoist and it went over. Engine swung, fell, and landed on the 16 year olds head. He was doing a job he was not supposed to be doing and of course the Wa. St. Dept. of L & I was involved; fines levied, etc. There was a roadside memorial out front of the yard for quite a while, I think it's gone now. Really a bad deal. BUTCH.

Also not me, but a friend lost a finger when unloading another friend's truck off a trailer at a show. His finger got stuck between the spokes of a front wheel and the brake caliper as the truck was rolling.

Actually, his finger kinda popped and the bones shot out of the finger. He was taken to the hospital but made it back to the show later in the day with the finger bones in a jar! haha

Had a mid sixties Impala up on it's side to pull the 12 bolt rear-end at a friends wrecking yard. I thought I had it propped up well but a warning creak told me to get out fast. Car came down onto my toolbox but I got out luckily. The yard owner was in hysterics as he thought I was underneath. The toolbox was totally flat!
Young and stupid and we both learnt a lesson that day.....

I go to that yard quite a bit. They used to have these 12 foot tall sawhorses on wheels to pull engines- some fool pulled a 460/C6 and ran it all the way to the top; then tried to roll it.

Did you notice Ray's is gone? Wonder is that nasty old wretch how owned it is dead?

i had to go to houston a year ago to pick up my dodge from a fellows yard. we were using my moms dakoda, bc i didnt think my 2500 suburban would make the trip there and back. we used a buddy of mine's trailer that almost didnt fit the four door on, but it did. the truck was almost maxed out on the rear leafs. so we drove all the way to dallas and when we went to unloud the dern thing. we started to back it off the trailer into my garage with a come-a-long...the cable broke...my dad yells "oh ****!" (like it helps)..and i dive through the garage door to the laundry room. i almost got stuck between my car and the garage wall. what stopped the car from going through the was was an aluminum ladder and the old crusty plumbers pipe that was the exhaust pipe, thankfully sticking out a good 4 inches from the bumper.

but all is good now. i have brakes on the car. it stops when i want it to.:D

I banged my knee against the frame on a 68 camaro in All American Cl***ics , it hurt so bad i collapsed on the spot, i have had much worse injuries, but on the pain scale that was at the top of the charts

  8. I had a metal mag-lite clamped in my teeth one night while unbolting something. As I increased my leverage with my wrench I also bit down forcefully on the lite and snapped off a perfectly good tooth below the gum line. I ended up spending over $5000. for a dental implant.

That was an expensive spare tire carrier.

The finger thing has happened but luckely to ex-boyfriends!

Only injury I sustained was to my *** when I fell off tire mountain, other than that I adored going to the junkyard with my father on saturday mornings.
We were there so he could build motorcross bikes for his team mbrs

  10. Had a helper take the cable free from the car so we could push it off the trailer.
I push and, as the car starts to move, I realize he put a ****load of slack in the cable but never actually unhooked it.
I realized this in time to end up flat on my back after my feet were swept out from under me.

    OUCH!!

  11. I was at the yard on Saturday and went through the rotten wood deck of an old flat bed. Got a nice bruise on my knee. Last year I forgot my hat and smoked my bald *** head till I looked like a big old lobster! NOT FUN!
My Brother was with me on Sat and got the **** scared outta him when wild turkey jumped out between two cars. My friend and I howled our ***es off at him. I also threw a garter snake at him!
    It was good day!

I was trying to load my x roomates 22r for his toyota project on the trailer after we had it out, it was still on the engine stand and i leaned it back and started to push the whole thing up on the trailer when it slipped and fell on my foot THANK GOD for steel toe boots during moments of stupidity. came away with a nasty bruise on my big toe but at least I could walk. Next time I think I'll use the chain hoist.
In hind site sould have sold all his junk for s****.

The worst injury was to my *** after kicking myself hard! Speedway Auto Salvage in East St. Louis had a $50 any engine policy. In an old school bus was an early Hemi next to a flathead Ford. This was back around 1985.

I've had a few but by far the most entertaining has to be the time I was picking up my '53 Bel Air. It was at night and I had just dropped off a '55 Olds that I had done some work to for my buddy. We were loading the '53 onto a flatbed and I was sitting in the front seat turning the steering wheel when the seat broke loose and dumped me into the back of the car. Didn't really get hurt but it scared the hell out of me at the time. Turns out some yokel had wired the seat in place with a coat hanger....go figure.

We aren't even going there as I've had more accidents working on cars than I can count. The bigger injuries have included broken ribs, a broken foot, a concussion and falling down and doing a split (guys, don't try this one at home...) trying to lift an AOD into my F-150.

I had a broken toe from a dropping something heavy on my foot, and I got caught in a car full of bees and couldn't get out quick enough. Not really anything serious but still put the hurts on me.

I seem to keep cutting open my legs trying to walk around cars with torn up fenders, twisted bumpers. Worst however is probaly poison ivy and bee stings.

Banged my head on a few hoods too.

For me it was devastating. I went to Memory Lane that used to be in Sunland, Ca and stood there for like almost 1/2 hour waiting to get some help to have someone get a part that I could not get that was in a car that was on top of another. Bunch of rude MF'rs and would never go ther again. Well, they closed the doors at that location so f' them anyways!!!!!!!!!!!! KNUX!

Broke my arm in the junkyard climbing over a truck (the day after a snowstorm) but I still got the grill I was after (using one hand). I got a discount on it too after I showed the counter guy my arm and how my hand was on sideways.

Old Junkyards on a hot day are a serene place. Lot's of buzzing insects, snakes, and odd smells.

I spent a day in a fruitless search for the old cars the guy thought were still there, fighting through stickers and swamp. Never found the cars but later I found a fully engorged deer tick fastened onto the one appendage no man wants any trouble with...

Still gives me the willys...

This isnt an injury story, but an Oh S**t story anyways....I haul s**** and junk cars on the side. The day before Thanksgiving '05 I went to pick up a '90 T-Bird parts car. The owner gave it to me after he took what he needed. I was winching it backwards up onto my trailer. When the rear tires come up on to the flat part of the trailer, the car rolls a bit until the front tires hit the bottom of the ramps. Nothing unusual, but then I watch, in slow motion, the stupid, puny, 'modern-car' frame hooks both fall out, and the car rolls back off the trailer and through the one-month-old single garage door! All I could do was watch from the front of my trailer. My heart just sank. I re-hooked the car, winched it up and secured it.
I then went inside to tell the homeowner the news. The kind, elderly man said:"Well, things happen. Go have a nice Thanksgiving and call me Monday morning." My insurance would not cover it, so that 'free' car cost me $500!!
I thank God there wasnt a Rolls-Royce or a Harley or something in that garage!

I had a car fall off stacked tires in a junkyard just after I climbed out from under it I was taking the 9" rear out . I had a deal any rear $10.00 ( you know that was a long time ago. Another time I found a snake under a seat did not stay long enough to find out what kind. I have also had the usual bug bites and Poison Ivy etc.

Quite literally 'busted my gut' lifting a sidevalve short block ***embly into my car boot on my own when I was about 19. 40 years later I've still got that hernia to remind me to be more careful lifting heavy stuff.

    Cheers, Glen.

kind of a reverse story, anyway
after a hard night on the drink i was at a pickyour park place . was taking out a radiator and when i took the hose off i managed to flick the old rusty radiator fluid all down my neck and shirt

when i was leaving, feeling pritty seads and needing a bit of sleep, the girl at the desk told me to "just go, dont worry about paying" i though she was being nice as i go there a bit . that was untill i got home and looked in the mirror, i was covered in this dark red liquid. the girl must have thought i was bleading out.

Got poison oak pretty bad with the first couple of cars I actually bought, '35 Ford and such. It was definetly worth it...but itched like hell.

Rub toothpaste on the sores, it kinda makes the itching stop and dries up the fluid. And if you can open the sores up, and pour alchohol in them (redneck stuff right here), that pretty much gets rid of them.
