Made my generator mount for the Beater. Added coolant, fouled plugs but the cam is broken in. So tonite, I'll change the oil. Next, throttle linkage , a shifter and re-run the front brake line to make it driveable. Oh yeah, a re-jet of the carb is in order now that everyrhing is running well. Sat...hit two car shows, went to my buddies party and got polluted. Sun, Mother's day cookout at home. Easy day after Saturday!
Finished up the fuel lines on the '58 Olds, now it wont start. Apparently, the stock fuel pump is too weak to pull all the way from the tank. I guess I'm gonna add an electric one to get things going. Redid a stock tank mount which had rusted out and still need to do the other one, which isn't as bad. Pulled my inner-fender and yanked out the stock treadle-vac setup on the brakes and took it apart to recover the shift rod, which will be shortened and reused once I put the '68 Olds 88 dual-master in its place. Making up a bracket/spacer after work today to get the new master at less of an angle to avoid running dry when going downhill (brilliant design there, guys) and setting my pedal height so a better welder than myself (THANKS, CROSSTHREAD) can weld it once I shorten it. Then, I get to drive my first car older than 1970 and probably find a bunch more problems - hopefully they'll be fixed before the cinematic. I've been asking for years what master works well for cars with the master between the steering and ground and I finally got my answer - any damn master you want. It looks real tight in there until you get the stock one out. I could park a bus in there. I'm also anticipating high pedal-effort from using a power-pedal setup with a manual master, but I'm gonna see how intolerable it is befoer I decide to trash it. Weekend hell, I'm gonna work on it nonstop between now and the cinematic. The girlfriend's already pissed about the mess in the bathtub, but it's just the start. I can't wait to get this thing done so I can start building a hotrod - customs are FILTHY when you're building them - just too many spots for oil/grease/etc to collect...
I adjusted the valves and timing in my truck Friday night, got up Saturday and drove a 1970 firetruck in a parade, left that and drove down to the motorheads show and Hot Rod Walt striped my tailgate. Left there and stopped at Summit so the Aussie could order all the stuff he wanted to take home with him. Then we drove in crappy rain all te way home. Sunday went and picked a complete 312 yblock for $75.
I took the roadster to Little River Saturday and made a couple of passes without crashing or breaking anything. Sunday worked in the yard, watched Darlington and replaced a window in the house. I am not sure which made my wife happier, running the car or getting the window replaced. I am pretty sure it was running the car.
i took my maidan voyage in my 36 ford coupe and about 2 miles from the house the skies opened up with rain but being Florida i pushed on to my buddy`s house.i figured it would stop after another mile or two.well, ten miles later it was steady pouring.i was soaked but the car ran great and thankfully stopped great too.sucked not to have a heater or wiper to clear the window.
made 14 passes down the track ! at little river in temple texas .drove there and back and hit a few bars , and shops on the way home .
I got outbid on some property, went golfing, drank too much, installed a new floor in my house and grilled for a few friends. I had a GREAT weekend. Only way it could have been better is if I had got the property!
Saturday: Worked all day. Finnaly killed my Y-block and started working on the new motor. Completly dissasembled my 302 so I can build a stroker to replace the 272 I blew up. Raced a new nissan in my cuttlass and won. Almost shit myself after eating at charo-chicken. Sunday: Played video games till 3:00 then went to mothers day bar-b-que at mom#2s. Got kicked out of mom#2s house for telling my old lady to shut up 'cause men were talking. Went home and got drunk watching cartoons. Completly forgot to call mom#1 and fell asleep on the floor reading speedway catalog. Still trying to come up with an excuse for not calling mom#1.
Put 3.23 gears into my 4.88 limited slip dropout (Mopar 8 3/4), and started building a 6 point cage for the Model A. Kingdon is coming!! Kingdon is coming!!
Checked valve clearance (plenty) installed heads oil pump pan front cover, radiator. Waiting on the pushrods that are supposed to be here tomorrow, may get the Comet running this week end!
Saturday: Got off work late at 8:15, Girls to soccer game at 9:15, homework 'till 5, girls to their mom's so I could go to Canton, OH to see Lords of the Highway/Baby Eaters/Kill the Hippies. Sunday:Up at 8:00, pick up my girls at 9:15 for church[where I play slap bass], drop girls at their mom's so I can drive to Cleveland to see MY mom! Dinner at a 'Japanese knife-throwin', food-throwin' restaurant. 6: Visitation at a funeral home for a friend's mom. 8: change to cuffed jeans/black T/Allstars to see Head Cat/Slack-Jawed Yokels at Peabody's in Cleveland! Whew!! Good thing I dont drink. Hey....... Al Von didnt get to wrench on his shoebox. Is it any wonder it wont be ready for the 'Rumble [Indy] in June?
Saturday: Watched royalshifter build a fence. Sunday: Watched the mighty Oakland A's come back from being down 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs/nobody on and a 0-2 count on the batter. I loves me some A's baseball.
had a couple cold ones with some of the coolest cats around Friday night, drove the T out to a vintage plane show and put another hundred miles on the little hot rod Saturday and test fit my new shifter on a spare transmission Sunday
Turned this... Into this... Instead of going to the afformentioned drags in Temple. I had even made a nifty battery hold down clamp for the caddy too...oh well.
Picked up some stock at the local Metal Express. Measured up the digger's pinion support to add in a seal.Origionally it was sealed via the bearing - it didn't work very well and actually leaked bad. I machined the coupler to accept the new seal and presto changeo no more leaky. I still need to put the coupler cover back on - but that's nothing. Changed the rear calipers - bled the system - Added a few more d'zus tabs. Then finished the battery mount. Went to kids 1st Communion party Saturday Mothers Day Sunday. Pretty darn good weekend actually!
I had a chance to give the 34 a little 'cosmetic' attention this weekend, since I got the trans to start shifting again last weekend. I finished painting the wheels (dark maroon) and set the ride height down a couple of inches. The new Hurst Firestone pie crusts arrived today so I had them mounted up on the freshly painted rims after work. Sorry about the lousy photos, my garage is a little tight on space right now.
I am closer to the Plymouth on the road, lots done. I decided I am going to buy the house that my car is at. Now I have a REAL garage.
put a new turbo on the inline, installed a interlocking motor mount, changed rear springs for that right stance. tom
