Max and his 6 carb Nailhead with widewhite tires that he broke in on his station wagon tow rig, beat the big boys and made it look easy.Thats some shit!
I truely enjoyed watching that short biography. Seams like he was a great hotrodder. Kicking ass on all the British sportscars of the day with home built hotrods. You gotta love his style. Great that there is enough interest in his work to save and preserve his cars.
that was definitely one of the better-put-together car docs I've seen. lots of great footage- I've seen only photos, never the car in motion. man! what a guy Balchowsky was. I had no idea his wife was so involved. learn something new every day. it's gonna be on again in an hour, and this time I'm taping it.
Repeat here.....and on THURS at 5pm. I will have the VCR set to tape it. Half way thru and lots of great footage of the old hotrods. Chris Nelson Kansas
What a good show, you nail head guys should be inspired. I really liked the sand cast manifolds for the DCOE Webers. Really a pretty amazing car- Jag 4 speed, Stude rear end.
I had read his name in car mags but didn't know very much about him. He was a HAMBer before there were HAMBers !!!!! Bought all the parts on the cheap, used his brains to put it together, and kicked the shit out of the snobs(goldchainers) of his time . Cool guy.
Max was an expert at making his cars look hacked and cobbled together while actually being pretty sophiticated.
Bruce it is on again here in the midwest at 5pm. I am taping it this time. I think this is what the show is called "Behind the Headlights". http://www.speedtv.com/programs/195/ Chris Nelson Kansas
There is one good shot of that car just BOILING the hides and gettin very side ways in second. Kinda makes you wanna build a nailhead.. That 10 seconds of video alone is worth the price of admission. -Abone.
