I believe Ak Miller was big into turbos. Had a turbo'd roadster that he wound up twisting the frame and body so much that the doors would barely shut.
Smokey Yunik also turbo-charged a mustang ll (?) I believe during the first gas crisis. If I understood the article correctly, and I may not have, it used the turbo to mix the air/gasoline charge into what the article said was "homogenous". There was an almost perfect bleending of air and gas, creating more of a vapor, rather than a mix of air and gas particles. The car was supposed to get 60-80 mpg, and I never heard any more about it.
The turbo was more of a "blender" than a compressor, if I read the article correctly. Sorry fo the hazy memory.
If those 2 guys won't get you any "traditional" stroke on this board, no one will.

Yeah, those guys were pretty smart. I used to work with Jerry, and knew he'd been into drag racing years before, but I didn't know the whole history until I saw a picture of one of his funny cars in a magazine.

Ak Miller was very big into turbos, especially in conjunction with propane fuel. He was involved in several projects that got ink over the years, but I think the coolest was a deuce roadster with a propane-fueled, turbocharged 300 Ford six. Very cool.

Well, the nightmare I keep having is my 47 Caddy he**** with a early 70's Eldo 500 & FWD. That should leave around 28" between the back of the engine & firewall. A perfect spot for a pair of twins to spin.:D
Still in the dreamin' stages. I'll definately be asking for help when the actual planning starts.

8. Hey Stevo!

Any chance of talkin' you out of one of those things? I'd like to do some experimenting on my Studebaker. Thanks a million in advance!

9. How about a Studebaker powered '51 Studebaker, Commander Starlight Coupe, drag car, with twin turbos? It's a 7 time, cl*** champ, owned and piloted by Ted Harbit. I'll get some pictures later.....

As Whaletail showed, the Buick Turbo V6 is hard to beat. (My Grand National is sitting in the parking lot). They are a rather small package, so you can put one in a little rod easily. They are an easy 300hp engine. Overdrive trans, fuel injected..

Its traditional in the sense that its a kick *** Buick engine. :D

They are traditional in another way.... most of them leak oil often too:eek:
I will try to find the one a guy put in his hot rod.

Here is a pict and links to the article on it.
It belonged to a Tom Dobrosky at the time.
2600 lbs + approx 300 hp (and about 375 lbs at about 2k rpm)= :D :D

Well guys, I'm working on a Turbocharged, F.I., 250 Inline Ford! Have built Turbocharged V8's but this is a first with the 6 banger. Working on getting the Aussie 250 with the aluminum crossflow head. Gota friend from over there that spends half the time here in Indy that is taking care of locating a "good" one for me. I have been talking with Dave Crower, Crower Cams, about the complete rotating ***y and "no problem". Got the Turbo lined up from Borg Warner (Schwitzer) as many years ago I worked at Schwitzer here in Indy and they helped with my 1st turbo car. A 69' Dart 340, w/twin turbos. Anyway, interested in any info I can get. Keep updated. By the way, It's going into a 57' Ford Courier (Sedan Delivery) G***er!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

OK, since you put a Harley up, I'll put mine up.

'74 Shovel, 108 CI, Rotomaster RM60 turbo. Went a best of 9.35 @144 in '87. Held several records in Comp and Modified eliminator in IDBA. It was also my street bike(bought it new, only bike I had). Perfectly streetable, and I kick started it.

I'm redoing it with a Rajay 301 turbo and bigger plumbing.
