Well I was just wondering about the opinons of fellow hamb'ers about putting newer engines in older rods...

Such as putting a LSx motor or a FoMoCo Modular motor in a rod...

I had planned on putting my mildly built LS6 motor in my 31 "A" 5 window.

What are you guys' opinions about the new in the old????

Some people will like it. Some people will hate it. Some people will tell you to build whatever you want. Richard D will chime in with something vaguely related to the topic. Somebody else will tell you that this is a traditional forum and that you should fuck off or build a street rod (the two being similar activities). It'll go to four pages and somebody will accidentally post a picture of their Mustang. It'll get closed and then some other newbie will ask it again in two months. And it all started with one guy telling you to use the search function for vague questions like this.

Go use the search function for vague questions like this.

  3. Gee, I thought that was what it was all about.
Seriously, you only put a modern engine in a rod if you want to go fast.

sounds like your mind is already made up....go for it......

i don't have any problems with it and i speak on behalf of the hamb

of course the ls series of engines are BAD engines but they just don't have a place in a tradtionally styled hot rods......unless that's what YOU want....

Never really been a traditional type of guy

I mean I have built a 10 sec 4 cyl mustang out of a platform that didn't even sell!

I am building a bagged custom lincoln in a newschool flava LOL! out of the misunderstood Mark VIII Coupe as my daily

Then I was originally going to shove this LSx motor into one of the "traditional" Swaps... RX7, Porsche etc...

Then I thought "Thats not me..." And I found something that would appeal to my better nature...

    We will see...

I say put a LSx of your choice with the edlebrock intake kit that uses a MSD box with a holley 750 double pumper.

If you put the MSD and the coils under the dash, the only wires on the motor would be to the crank trigger and alt.

Machine the valve covers smooth and polish them. Should look good and be fast.

With every thing said, build what you want and make no excuses for why.........

It's your car why ask? If you ask, I'll tell you it looks nasty. And not nasty in a good way.

  12. Well you do understand what the HAMB is about...? and your still ask the question...?

  13. man I say go for it, those engines are AWESOME. Who cares - the grins that engine will put on your face will be worth it.

Things could be done to make it look less new, like paint, valve covers, etc. Maybe just a hood - keep it sleeper everyting else trad. what ever. That would rock.

I think it's funny when people get bent about what someone else wants to do to their car.

Do what you like because that will mean the car is driven and enjoyed more often.

Low 13 second quarter mile times at 100+........26 mpg (driven 10,000 miles per year). Do what you want, put red wheels on it too if that's what you like.......but drive it like a rental car.

    Either did I...

I still want to run it fuelie and all that jazz...

    Hmmm... interesting opinion!

    Rock on with it guys

  18. I think that if you are making a nostagic styled rod, an engine that doesn't fit the time period you are going for kills the vibe in an open engined car.

However, on something where the engine is hidden, go for it. I have a 4.3L V6 in my 49' Fleetline.

Friend of mine is putting in a 350 sbc tpi setup in his '51 chebby coupe. KNUX!

  23. Do what you want - All our predecessors did. Lots of traditional rods have new mills in them.

  24. Nah...I already have an S10 under it.

I like to drive my cars, so I will gladly dump some historical accuracy for modern items that make the car drive much better. So the disk brakes, open driveline, overdrive trans, and radials all get the nod.

How long have you been in Germany?

Do you have logistical support (ID card)?

Are you planning to ship anything back to the United States any time soon?

    Will it pass the TUV?

It sounds to me like you have a lot going on already in a place that is not too friendly for hot rodders.

These are some of the things that come to mind before you start anything!

    Have fun!!!!!
