55 ford 272. starts up and runs but stays running when the ignition gets turned off. so I turned down the distributor and adjust the idle on the carb to compensate idle, now the car turns off but won't start back up. turn the distributor back where it was and car starts up and of course runs at a high rpm cause it's getting a lot of gas and the cycle continues. things I know still need to be dealt with or checked for, there may be a vaccuum leak but I haven't checked yet but don't think that should cause this kind of issue, I have to double check the rocker arm gap cause I recently installed new pushrods but everything sounds good and I did gap them after installing the new rods.

i've got an offy 3X2 with 3 94's but currently only running off the center carb with block off plates on the outside carbs and no linkage hooked up to the outer carbs. I've still got to rebuild the outer carbs and get a fuel log but i'm wanting to get running on at least one for now. any ideas?

try disconnecting the generator/alternator and run it and see if it shuts off then. if so then you need a diode to keep the gen/alt from feeding the ign when switch shut off. or regulator is bad/hooked up wrong if you have an external reg.

tried your suggestion at lunch sure enough it kept running. it's an internally regulated alternator so i'm ***uming the diodes may be bad then or the internal regulator is?

  5. My 64 falcon did the same thing, turned out the starter solenoid was bad. Try pulling the "I" wire on the solenoid...L.B.
