Anybody ever had much luck with "block sealer" for cast iron engine blocks?

I have a running engine, just rebuilt. Problem is...I think one of the cylinder wall sleeves is allowing coolant to leak into the combustion chamber. It uses up a slight amount of coolant, then runs hot due to low coolant level.

Anybody ever tried any of the readily available "miracle" cans of block sealer or similar "quick fix"? Any other suggestions...besides the obvious, rebuild with a better block?

Used some once about 20 years ago. J and W i think. 3 inch crack in the side from over heating. Worked fantastic! Drove it other two years after no problems. I can't rembember the dam name though. 2 intials in a copper colored can.

    Thanks, guys

I'm hoping I can get away without completely re-doing this engine.

used to use stuff called water gl*** years ago, it worked great. gm sells block sealer for caddilac's because they don't use head gaskets on the newer ones.

I'll concur with "whatfenders" about the Moroso sealer. I've used it a couple times - after being advised to do so by a local professional race engine builder with many year's experience. Great results every time.

It's avalible from Speedway - although not always in their catalogs. Last I got was around $10 a jug. You might need two.

Make it 3 votes for Moroso Ceramic Engine Sealer. There is NOTHING that seals cracks better! I first read about this stuff in Stock Car Racing mag 20some years ago, as many NASCAR teams were dumping in a can just for insurance before a race. Since then, I've used it to successfully seal a bunch of cracked blocks and heads. We've even used it in demolition derby cars to seal radiators. The non-antifreeze variety seems to work a little better and most of the chain parts stores like Autozone can order it for you in a day.

Blue Devil sealed up an 8" long crack in my Olds. Hasn't leaked a drop since I put it in there.
