What's the rest of the car going to be like?

I don't see much point in installing an extremely late model, powerful, tecnologically advanced engine, if the rest of the car is not going to handle and brake well enough to get the proper enjoyment out of the power plant.

There are plenty of "run-of-the-mill" engines that will propell an old car plenty fast enough to lose control. Depends on what purpose you have for the car. If drag racing is your goal, then handling and braking isn't quite as important....but for highway use, it would be nice for the car to be somewhat "balanced".

    LOL, there's the mustang...

I think the real point of this post is to see if any other folks have a cool idea to share. Hot Rodding used to be about ingenuity. Do we have to cement our feet in the past to enjoy tradition?

I would love to put a 4 rotor ****el into a belly tank or a very small gas turbine into boat tail speedster. Both have roots in the early 20th century. Hell, there was even a gas turbine attached to a rear axle for drag racing.

Traditional as in follow the pack.. not as in styling or other mentions of such...

And I don't really care about what other people's opinions are about a specific project of mine. I Am going to build how I see fit with my money...

This thread was to see what other ideas or swaps are going on in the world... Just poke to see whats under the rock persay...

I say do what they did in the old days - take your old car and stuff a new go fast engine in it!

I mean really, come on.....if you were to transplant a real backyard hot rodder from 1955 to today (through that time machine gizmo), he sure as heck wouldn't hesitate to stuff a crate fuel injected LS7 in his '32 coupe! Now that is tradition!

Sure he would. No doubt. To some of us, it just wouldn't be as nice to own as if it had a flattie in it.

A bit like someone wanting to drywall and wall to wall carpet Fallingwater. If your ultimate desire is the fastest you can go, by all means do it. Nobody cares. It's your car.

Just don't care what others think or look for acceptance for it where it's generally not appreciated.

There was a special on SEMA the other day. Early 60's vette was the prize winner. Owner admitted that the only thing left that was early vette was the body. New crate 427 something or another. I'm sure it was fast. It did nothing for me. I thought it quite hideous which is hard to do to an early vette.

That same engine in a late Corvette would be a modern day hot rod. Cool as hell.

I like the idea of mixing old with new. Like this Hemi, this is a good mix, it has style, flavor and it is something that makes you really think about possibilities. Now the idea of dropping a crate motor into a vintage rod...well not for me, but "to each their own" as the say. Do what you need to do and there will always others in agreament and disagreament with you.

Wait a second, here. I think I'm missing something.

I don't generally argue with people- go back and check my posts.

However, in your initial post, you asked about what we thought about new engines in old hot rods- mixing it up, essentially.

Most here have been VERY polite to you, being that you came to a traditonal board and posed this question, but then you come off, "Well, I'm gonna do what I wanna do.", and "I'm not really a traditional...blah...blah." If this is the case, why would you ask if it's the cool thing or accepted. I find this ironic.

This has been hit a thousand times, go back and do a search!

Also, I see most of the newbies (NEWER than I am and I consider myself a newb) are all saying, "Do what ya want maaaan.....be a rebel!"

Stupid thread of the week......I guess I've done my part to contribute to the stupidity...

NOW, let's change this up. If you had asked for tech info about an LS series engine, not whether it is correct or not, you may have farmed some pretty good info- there are a LOT of knowledgeable people here that know more than just traditional. Most just choose to talk about the older stuff. See the difference?

Dont be so hard on yourself...:)

But it does seem like a lot of Drama for a car that may or may not be built.

And wont be relevant for a Trad Hot Rod & Custom's Site, if it does.

There are a lot cooler ( and more difficult ) things a person could do to not follow the pack, than drop a LS-whatever into something Flat Black & Old.

    This one is done...
