So i drove my 51 chevy to school today for the first time (bad idea).
it was parked for an hour and a half and i went to go check on it and some ***hole ran into my back fender above the bumper and below the tail light. This car was one of the straightest ive ever seen the only ding was on the front bumper before this and it was quarter size.ofcourse the dude was no where in sight and ill never know who it was.

    I hate idiots

Don't listen to the Internet Toughguys TM.

Be thankful you don't live in Philadelphia.

Everything I own looks bad because of ignorant drivers.

I don't let that ruin my day.

If you ever catch someone damaging your car, go after him, but don't get bent out of shape over something you can't solve.

Several years ago my '41 Ford Woodie was parked at my restaurant. I semi-watched an old couple walk out then turned my back...when I turned back they were driving forward very slowly and when I looked at the woodie I noticed the left rear fender didn't look right. I walked out to the car finding the fender basically destroyed. About that time the old man backed up and hollered out his window "did I hit that old thing".... his insurance adjuster wasn't amused, he had the privelege of buying me a NOS fender and having it painted to match the car. Thankfully none of the wood was damaged and I saw who did it.
It was kind of funny cause I told one of the girls to call the police, almost all of the police in the small town were car guys and I knew all of them well. Every cop on duty came down to see what had happened, it looked like we had Charles Manson cornered.
It all ended well, but I feel for you not knowing who the guilty idiot was.

Haring's right. It might come out later as to who did it, and everyone will know they're an ***hole. At least you'll be the better man.

Definitely ****s, half the time people are so inattentive they don't realize they have done damage at all. On the other hand if you don't drive your car and take the risk, you're just saving it for someone else. i drive and **** happens, but at least I'm enjoying my car.

Welcome to Houston! Most Houstonians have NO respect for anyone's property:mad: Since I've bought my car 3 years ago, I've driven to Houston once because of stories like yours and my own experiences living there for 20+ years. I was told by a civil attorney after an accident with a no insurance having ***hole (who was white, for those keeping score), that Texas is the place to live if you're going to owe someone money. You could go to small claims court and get a judgment and nothing will happen. That guy has a judgment against him for over $5k and I'll never see any of it...
I'm so glad I live in Austin now....

****er here parked grill to grill with a Nissan Xterra. I noticed it up against my truck and backed out to see if he had actually made contact but didn't see anything until I got home. Luckily, when I figured out that he had dented my grill ('58 GMC, harder to find than a Chevy) I found him and he hadn't even realized he did it (he had it jacked up with a big push bar). He admitted that it had to have been him and offered to settle up. I never took any cash from him since I have to rechrome it anyway. I was just happy to get an appoligy.

Man that stinks....I been there. Once I parked my pickup in front of my shop along the curb, just to grab the air hose and add a little air to right front tire.

While I was waiting for the air to build up in the compressor, some A-hole backed out from across the street an totally trashed the driver's side door. I never saw it or heard it...but there is no way this guy couldn't have known he hit my truck.

I went out with my air hose...walked around to the driver's side and was shocked by what I saw! That SOB got away with it, because I never found out who did it.

The worst thing was that earlier that same day, some other jack*** backed into my other truck's front bumper at a bridge toll plaza. Like an idiot, I let him promise to pay for it without involving the cops (mainly because I didn't want to tie up traffic at the bridge). He never made good on it.

...picked up my newly painted 60 cad and drove it to an empty parking lot across from my house. Parked it there overnite and found a door ding on it in the morning...never saw a car in the lot...within 24 hours of fresh paint! I give up...

Same thing happened to me when an elderly man BACKED UP IN REVERSE into me on a major road.

He was upset and apologetic at first, but then changed his tune and yelled, "I don't even know why you were back there!"

Creep -- I know how you feel. My late model truck was hit overnight IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE, and now the side of the bed is pushed in. It WAS a nice truck. Now it looks like junk, and I'm not going to fix it.

I already fixed it ONCE -- the SAME SPOT that elderly guy hit me!

So, yes, I understand the frustration.

I had that happen once. A tape measure, determination and some simple logic illuminated who the culprit was. He PAID UP!!

Happened again - that one got away. so I'm batting .500

Several years ago some lady who was not very well versed in english drove her lexus into the side of my shop van in a gas station while I was filling up. Crumpled her car and messed up my van pretty good. I was nice and let it go. Two weeks later the cops showed up. She claimed I hit her and took off. It was very frustrating, but in the end she got in a lot of trouble for lying. But I would let your school officials know. File a police report.

In what school (high school?, college?) parking lot were you parked? P*** the word, somebody may have seen the culprit! Any paint residue?
Make a report at school security. Find out if they have parking lot cameras, lots of schools do!

If it's high school you are probably going to find out who it is in the matter of a couple days. Same thing happened to me I found out who it was through gossip and ha fessed up when he saw that there were witnesses.

That blows about your ride. I had a 67 Chevy II that I brought up to Idaho when attending college about 6 years ago. It was parked in front of my house on the street and was hit on the drivers front by a new Suburban. The tire marks from the Nova were 7 feet long! She really smashed the **** out of it.
The worst part was dealing with the insurance and the shop it was towed to. After fighting with the insurance to not total it out, then keeping the shop owner from trying to sell it to his buddies, then having to locate the fender, hood, bumper, grille..etc. myself, it took over four months. It ****in ****ed. Funny thing is that right after I told insurance company that I wanted a rental car, they had it done with in two weeks. Moral of the story - always take the rental even if you don't need or want it. the extra expense to the insurance company is a good motivator.

That ****s! I hate hit and runs...no matter how minor the damage is.

Advice to anyone else that catches the ***hole in action or has a minor fender bender, do NOT trust the person to take responsibility on their own. Regardless of how minor the damage might be, call the police and get a report, get their insurance involved. You might do ok outside of the proper authorities once or twice but the first time you get burned you'll really regret it.

First time was when I drove my Olds daily in high school. Had it parked way out in the parking lot at work...someone came and found me to tell me it had been hit. Some idiot in a truck didn't set the brake or leave it in gear and as he walked away, his truck rolled across the parking lot and into my front bumper. The bumper was trash anyway, but it did look a lot worse after his truck hit it. Got his number and everything, never got my money...

When I had my Bullitt, some ignoramus drove through a stop sign on a side street in front of me. So instead of hitting the guy (I'd just been through a front end wreck and had the car fixed) I made a hard right and tried to make the side street and ended up smacking a curb. Got out and the wheel was cracked but I thought that was it. Didn't want to have another incident on the car's record because I was planning on selling it soon so I just got his number again and went on. Turned out not only was the wheel junk, but it bent the strut and screwed up the top of the strut tower pretty bad. When he found out it was going to cost more than just replacing a wheel, he never paid up. I should have just plowed his *** so there would be evidence.

Don't trust anyone in a case like this.

As I was leaving my old apartment one day in my Olds, some idiot was backing out of a parking spot and did so right into my p***enger door. He wasn't even looking. Got the insurance involved, I had a check for a grand to replace the door, fixed it myself and had enough for Astro's and a new albeit cheap-o paint job.

I picked up a new truck from the dealer at 8:30 p.m. drove home went to work, started at 6:30 a.m, and a fellow driver pulled up along side of it and door dinged it. He blew it off saying that I'd get a lot of them why worry about it.
Needless to say he paid for the repair, I still think the guy is an ***hloe to this date for his remarks.

**** man- sorry for the damage. Wonder if someone just did it out
    of car envy.....

One of the many reasons why you spend the cash for an appraisal- it will save you a bunch more heartache if you have something 'legal' to show the insurance company on what the value is worth.

Many years ago I had damage to my 56 Chevy- smashed the shot out of it turning a corner- had a choice of damaging the entire frotn end or a corner of chrome- so I chose the latter.
The jack*** from the insurance company (NOT a specialty car insurance like Hagrety or Grundy- it was Met P&C at the time) tried to total out my just painted car because the book value was $1500 and I had more than $1500 worth of damage.
Only thing that saved my car was the damn appraisal saying it was valued at $40K (at the time).
    Appraisals are worth EVERY penny.

Last week my good friend had his 17k original mile 928 parked in front of his mom's house when the factory alarm went off. When he came out a neighbor was ushering her kids into the house. He found tricycle high scratches on the side of his car and was not happy. When he walked up to the house (this is while he was in his suit mind you in a 500k a house neighborhood) the woman walked out and yelled I have already called the police don't come near me. The police FLEW into the cul de sac and apparently she had told them that HE was going to falsely accuse her kids of doing something to the car. Violently. In a suit. The cops were pissed at the lady but couldn't do a thing for Mark. He filed a criminal mischief report and the cops knew that the car was perfect until 15 minutes before then. It was very sad. 20 year old car ****ed up and the woman didn't even have the wherewithall to own up to it. Someone is going to trench her lawn with my F150 this weekend. :) Positraction - it's a good thing. Should be good for about $500 worth of scratch repair?
