OT: Totalled my truck tuesday

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by A31ModelA, May 17, 2007.

  1. HEy y'all I just need to vent a little bit. I was on my way to a job site tuesday morning after dropping my 1 yr old son off at the sitter. I was cruising down the main street by my house going to another house 3 blocks away to finish doing some Low E window installs. Well this guy decides to cut across 2 lanes of traffic into the turning lane at an intersection and cut right in front of me. Well it happened so fast I could not even hit the brakes. I hit him full on at 35 mph. MY truck(2005 f150 SuperCrew lariat 4x4) is now TOTALLED, I will hopefully settle out with the insurance in the morning. So I will now be looking for a new ride, most likely a F250 or F350 4x4 crew cab Diesel, pref. a 7.3 99-2002 model if anyone knows of a clean one here in Texas.

Anyhow I am so far doing ok. I am bruised and sore as hell, went to the doc again today for Xrays and bone structure is good, but tissue, and muscle damage is my biggest problem, possible knee injury as well. I had tools in the back seat in my tool bag, and some came flying over the p*** seat and hit the windshield cracking it as well. Even my cordelss drill charger came from the tool bag, up over the front seats and under my feet.
I did not even have time to hit the brakes, as I hit him before I even knew what was going on. He was ticketed for failure to yield right of way, and also no proff of ins. Thank god it was his dad's car, and his Dad does have ins.

I hate to go on with this but I had to vent to someone, my truck is my work/personal truck. I use it for everything and now I'm boned out of it. It will at least be paid off though, and Hopefully, I can get some more cash out of them to buy another ride. But my biggest ***** is, I ordered this thing the way I wanted it. Loaded leather, 4x4 lariat with full skid plates, limited slip front and rear, audiophile stereo, everything. I Added king ranch running boards, bedliner, 2500 watt power inverter, code systems remote start, satelite radio etc. MY macbook was in the front seat, was thrown to the floor, and LCD busted, battery trashed etc. So needless to say I won't be workin for a few weeks, but soon be looking for a good truck(only FORD though) I have to get some qoutes tomorrow to counter their offer and try to get enought out of them to get back into something I can afford. When I got this one I was workin for a Ford dealership, and got a hell of a deal on it. So I am not upside down on it but they only wanna give $400 over what I owe on it. I told them not gonna happen. So I am researching info on the net now,a nd going to hit up a couple car lots and dealerships tomorrow, to see what it would take to get back inot exactly what I had( which I know is damn near impossible). Anyhow enjoy the pics, and wish me luck.

Thanks for listening to my *****in>> If it is too far off topic I understand if it gets deleted.

Sorry 'bout your accident...:( I work for a Ford store parttime as a driver. With all of the dealer incentives, rebates, dealership discounts and somewhat sluggish sales of the Heavy Dutys at the moment, you may do a LOT better than you think on a 250 or 350.

Isn't it legal in Texas to get out and beat that guys ***?

  5. I hope I can get a hell of a deal on a new f250 or 350, but I am not holding my breath, I had about 15000 down on this one when I bought it.(discounts, a plan etc). I doubt the ins even comes close to giving me 15k after paying off what I owe on it.

Thanks Josh, I am really gald he nor my daughter were with me, nor another p***enger, bc my 18v cordless jigsaw was thrown fromt he back seat into the front widshield, in its path was the top of my p*** seat. That could have done some serious head damage, since the police estimated from the other drivers comments he was in excess of 35 mph.

  6. Yeah, I had my .357 S&W in my drivers door in a holster, and the cops just said, well We are glad u didn't use it on him when you got out. Now if my son or daughter were with me, I wouldn't be writing to you guys, because I would be in jail for killing an idiot. :D

Oh yeah that is the guys like 80 yr old mom who was the p***enger of the white car. She was banged up pretty well too. I feel for her, bc of her sons stupidity, she now has to suffer and pay for his screw up too.

Sorry to here about that Will! I hope you heal up sooner than they tell ya. Maybe you can look out in the surrounding towns for a new one. I heard they're more willing to work with you on price but, any where you go there is going to be a bunch of them sitting around. It's a buyer's market for those babies. Well, I'm glad you didn't get seriously hurt. Let me know if I can help. Aman.

The key when negotiating is "replacement cost". Find the truck you want now and and what costs...

Looks like you gave as well as took...his car looks like it came out of it in worse shape than your truck (small consolation, I know). I'm glad his p***enger is still mobile - I'm getting up there in age and can empathize with how she must be feeling this morning.

You know, as bad as I hate ambulance chasers, this is one of those times *I* think you should call one of them. This guy was clearly, as you say "an idiot" and it is my most sincere belief that stupidity should be punished. If Darwin won't do it, then it falls somewhat upon the rest of us whenever possible.

Don't settle up until after you speak with a lawyer. Your pain and suffering should be worth something, shouldn't it?

I can't really tell from your pics, but it doesn't look like a total. If it's a front clip. it's no big deal (repair wise). Did your ins say it was totaled, or are you ***uming?
Bummer you even have to deal with it, though.

You could always buy back the wreck and go on the hunt for a mid-fifties F250 to rebuild with the parts.

    Glad you're okay.

  16. hey guys thanks for the comments, I knew it was totaled minutes after the wreck. The engine is history, it wont crank up and when you try to start it you can hear the crank slamming on the internals, the front of the frame is history as well as the front clip etc. engine was pushed into the firewall, and it is damaged as well.

The ins, are the ones who are totaling it. They made an offer I refused it, pending more research as of what it will cost me to get into another truck identical to it. I did not ask to be put in this situation and I Want a truck of equal value and options as I had 5 minutes before the wreck. I deserve it. I have already talked to 2 diff. atty friends and am using their guidance for the property damage, then when it comes time for personal injury, I will be requesting their services. :) I hate ins. companies with a p***ion seems all they wanna do is drag things out and fuk u over. I will file suit if they start ****ing me around. I am not out to **** anyone, but I want to be fully compensated for my losses, including personal property, and personal injury, and further on down the road as well. I will write a little more when my neck isn't killing me.

Man I'm real glad your OK and sorry about your truck.
Just before we moved from California my wife was driving to work and an illegal (no insurance or license) ran a red light at a high rate of speed and broadsided her, thank God she was driving her '02 F150 Lariat. The truck was totaled and the only injury was a welt on her left are where the air bag slapped her. Built Ford Tough.

Curious, in Texas cars are insured not drivers, so how could the guy get a no proof of insurance ticket if it was his Dad's car and is insured?? I guess they just didn't have the Insurance Card in the car, huh?

Back in '04, I had a similar mishap with my '58 F-100. An idiot lady took a left turn across a four lane one way street from the right lane. She was about two car lengths ahead of me and I was doing about 40 in the lane next to her. Without using a signal or anything she turned and I broadsided her 2002 neon. Sent it about half a block down the street and me into the telephone pole on the opposite corner. I still haven't got my truck back on the road. I only got 3000 for my truck but they let me keep it. I wanted to do all of the body work (I already had all of the parts in my ba*****t) and since then have completely torn it down, put it back together, and torn it down again. I almost have it back together but in the meantime, I've gotten married, had a kid, and bought a house. The truck is just sitting in the garage until I can get to it.

  20. WHAT A DRAG.

how ironic,i just got rid of my impala and my f150 this weekend.

  21. They have insurance thankfully, but did not have proof at the time of the accident. That part of the ticket will be dropped, but the failure to yield right of way. will stick, along with him being on probation for DWI as well. There was a spilled drink in the car at the time of the accident, but was unable to be proven if it were fresh or old. I had a friend call his probation officer the day of the wreck and see if they could pull a UA on him immediately, we have not heard from them yet as to see if he went in or not.

My condolences on your truck, and I'm glad you're alive to tell us about it!
For what its worth, insurance companies can take a clear-cut incident, and water it down based on what you say.
"Well it happened so fast I could not even hit the brakes. I hit him full on at 35 mph. MY truck(2005 f150 SuperCrew lariat 4x4) is now TOTALLED"
Never say "I hit him".... they will hook onto that admission like a piranha. I also have no love for insurance companies. Been there, lost that.

    Feel better soon.

  23. Luckily I have not given a full on statement. Hell I am having hell getting them to give me a rental because the guy has not claimed responsibility for the wreck. We do have the insurance claim #'s and such both on my insurance and his. I am waiting to hear back from the ins right now, on what they are going to give me onmy truck. I have 2 estimates of around 30k just to get into another one just like mine. So far they offered about $400 more than I owe on it. That won't work for me. I am looking into my PIP and other things with the insurance as well. I am thinking about even calling the insurance board, and asking them what I truly am en***led to. :) I like to ruffle feathers, I hope it doesn't get me in trouble lol

Glad to hear your OK and your child wasnt with you at the time!

Yeah, dont give up on the insurance adjuster. His job is not to make you happy, it is to get out of the mess costing his company as little as absoulty possible.

On another note.........You did have him properly belted in, and in a child seat in the rear seat of the truck, right as you took him to the sitter???

Reason I ask is I was in a wreck where the girl ran a stop sign with her 9 month old baby sitting in the front seat in just a diaper, no child seat, not even belted in the adult seatbelt...... Well he didnt survive.

    Glad to hear your ok.

thank god your son was not in the truck and that your alright

  26. OMG she didn't even have the child in a seat? she should be shot on site.

I would NEVER let my child ride in the car without a car seat, or a seatbelt. I talk **** to ppl I see on the street when they don't have their kids belted in, Hell I have even called the police and given descriptions of the car and plate # before. That is one thing I can not stand at allllllllllllll. The child does not know any better. It is the parents responsibility to make sure they are safe, and when they don't The should pay the price.

Yes my kids always wear seatbelts or are buckled in their car seats with 5 point harness.

I am glad I am ok as well. I finally got the ins. workin in my favor tonight. I should have a rental in the morning, and then we start discussing my property damage, laptop, tools and most of all my truck. Then personal injury later on.

Thanks for all the comments and wishes for fast recovery. When the drugs wear off I hurt pretty bad.
