I was wondering about that too. I've been in some chopped and channeled model a coupes that I really don't think I could physically drive. Yet, I see guys like Voodoo Larry getting into little cars. I don't get it.

  5. Thanks to my raging Irish DNA, I'm only 5'9" and that's on a day with low barometric pressure. I don't know how you long legged fellers fit in them small hot rods.

You could always section your femurs and shins.

Keep your seat back as thin as possible and don't recess the firewall. Careful planning of the ****pit is all I can suggest.

Most small cars I don't actually get into - I have to put them on! I'm 6'3" and 265, so most small cars are too tight for me. That's one of the reason's I'm planning to drive my Dubble A a bit in the cab's stock form, as I might wind up actually extending the thing from 6-12" in order to make my long legs fit better and for more comfort.

Beats me...I'm 6'2", 210. I have a hard time driving Buzzards coupe, and it's unchannelled! (but, he has a tallish seat.) I smash my head into the roof over a big bump at least once every time I get behind the wheel. (Figure I would have learned by now, or at least taken a different direction to our secret test and tune location.)

best as I can tell, hang the motor out a little more, for less recess in the firewall, the before mentioned thin seatback, and pretty much bolt it directly to the floor. (no riser)

Dunno. not to be a ****, but perhaps you should have thought of this before you channeled it ?:D

Consider a tall shifter and rat fink costume, then charge appearance fees at car shows.

(Automatics help, as do svelte transmissions)

  10. 6'4", 200 lbs and drive a 23 t bucket. Practicaly sit on the floor. Recess seats into trunk space might help. Use to get cramps on long ride but dont any more for some reason. The long legs make it easy to get in with no doors.

I'm 6' 8" and drive a chopped 36 Ford 2 door seadn. When I chopped the top I lowered the seats an inch more that the top. It works good for me but my wife has a hard time seeing over the steering wheel. But she is only 5'4".

I have a daily driver which is a Volvo Bertone Coupe which is a factory chopped 2 door volvo. I had to drive it almost laying down but when I installed different seats and removed the seat platforms (like a Mustang) I could just about sit upright. Big difference.

At 6'3" I'm looking out the very top of the 30 A coupe windshield with stock seat and roofline (had to remove the wiper blade). People didn't have all the fortified foods in the 1930's that we eat so they were smaller. My 6'8" son can't drive the coupe. A friend my size had a 28 A roadster and sold it - looked like a monkey on a football. With your size you will need some special bod fitting mods in that roadster!

I'm 6'6" and fit good in my 28, but it was a coupe turned roadster. I don't think the channel thing will work for you. Unchannel it, z the frame to work for you, don't recess the firewall, etc. Maybe even lengthen the doors a few inches to help you out. 2-3 inches can make a big difference...

Good golly miss molly.... ya'll are whining about being 6' and over and 265lbs...try being 6'4" and 450lbs hehehe

  17. well, I'm 6'0", i kept my coupe a highboy but z cut the rear rails and tipped up the front rails which set the center of the body down low but then the motor and ****** invaded the floor area much like a channeld car. So.....i mounted a middle bench seat out of a 90's caravan as low as I could to the floor with some short height seat tracks and clearanced the seat bottom frame to go over the hump for clearance when my 5'4 " wife has to scoot the seat up to drive. and I can still chop it 3 1/2" with headroom to spare and be comfy. I can stretch right out with the seat all the way back. a lotta planning should be thought about if ya really wanna drive it without being uncomfortable or looking weird when yer sittin in it. As to your ride, why not lengthen the body behind the doors about 6 to 10 inches and go for some longer doors to boot and build a dropped floor right where your seats mount? not impossible to do....just takes a little planning and a lotta metal work if yer bent on doing that particular body set up.

thin seat backs, small steering wheel, pedals as far up to the firewall as possible. the problem I allways have is my right knee getting stuck between the steering wheel and the shifter in second gear.

UNCHANNEL it. Add a belly pan if you want to hide ugly frame rails. That four inch channel is huge when you're over six feet tall.

I love channeled cars I don't own one because I don't think I would fit. I'm only 6'3" at a light 225. My A coupe is chopped almost 5 inches and my seats are low and mounted on the floor. I really wanted to channel it but it's a tight fit now so I guess I'll leave the channel out of the picture. I had thought about sinking th eseats down between the rails but on a A frame I wouldn't have the room for my fat ***.

  22. Well I'm not real tall, I was 6 foot once so I never was real tall, now due to missing discs i'm down to between 5'10" and 5'11".

Anyway I don't have a real long inseam so leg room has never really been an issue but head room has always been an issue.

As for you my friend good luck, maybe you can give the old beasty a rumble seat and sit back there.

I'm 6' 10" and change, 275 lbs. I've come to the conclusion that owning and driving a chopped and channeled T is just not in my future. Hell, I would probably resemble one of Big Daddy Roth's monsters popping out of the roof, and while that might be cool ... well, ya know.

I'm planning the chop on my 50 Chevy and have come to the conclusion that it will not be as severe as I would like because of head room, even taking into account slicing the bottom of the bench seat off to it "lays frame" and gives me a couple more inches.

Good luck, but I think you'll manage just fine.

One of the biggest mistakes folks make when building a car for themselves is not building it for for themselves. Every step of the build that has to do with comfort and vision should be checked and mocked up for the driver's specifications (your wife, kid, girlfriend, you, your Dad or Mom). After all, the car is not being built for the guy down the street, but for YOU.
To simulate a chopped chop simply tape posterboard shields to the windshield, back gl*** and side gl***es dropping the "top". See what kind of vision you have, how comfortable or uncomfortable it may be. Slide the shielding up a half or full inch at a time until you feel right. Do your PhotoShop work or the old fashioned photom, scissors, tape method.

I'm not that tall, six feet, and comfortably drive a '27 T roadster. I moved the rear bulkhead back six inches inside the turtledeck, dropped the seat pan two inches into the frame and built a footwell three inches into the firewall. My sholders are even with the top of the body and it is very comfortable. Just build your car around your body and all will be good.

Lowered seats my man, lowered seats. I am about 6'5 and with the chop on the merc and restuffed stock seats it was a pain. My shoebox sedan that I chopped 6/9 is OK with the lowered seats, but I think could be taxing on a long drive. The next sedan that I chop that radically Im going to use early Mustang seats, anything lower than them is no seats!

Like the otehr bloke stated....lay your seats on the ground, I sliced the top of the seat mount of my chopped 49 to lower it 3 inches....gave me just enough room to put a headliner in and still give me a inch and a half between my head and the roof....I best tighten my seatbelt though, some of them potholes here in J-ville will put me in the roof otehrwise...I also ripped the tank out from behind the seat....yeah you dont have that problem....but others may...set the seat back another 3"

  30. easy to add room, instead of mounting a flat floor over the ch***is rails drop the floor where the seats are and poss in the foot wells as deep as your channel job. you will have to plan your cross members with this in mind and probably be only able to fit bucket/bomber seats, you will probably have to build a tunnel for the propshaft too. It may seem like a lot of work but if it makes the ar more drivable it's worth it...
    AND I don't have any problems with small cars......I'm 5ft 2in!!!!
