i was watching an interview with gale banks on tv last night and at the end he said he wants to produce a street-legal car that will go from 0 to 60 in the 2's. first of all, *******! secondly, that got me thinking, we have a lot of fast cars owned by hambers, some we know about, some we don't, and some others are not so "traditional" but are still cool, like groucho's vette, for example. so i got to thinking unless you're at the hamb drags or something, you never really hear speed statistics about anybody's cars, so let's hear some...
I went through my slips to get these "average" stats: 60' in the high 1.6- low 1.7's 1/8 mi. 7.3-7.5, @92-93 MPH 1/4 mi. 11.5's on up to 11.9's @ 112-117 MPH
Willys with a small block, TH350, 4:89 Mopar rear. Nothing fancy...high compression, big solid cam, Dart heads and a single 4bbl Holley. -Scott
1958 Pontiac Bonneville, just shy of 4000 lbs, 389, tri-power, bw T-10 4-speed, bias-ply tires. Might get better times with my new radials that don't just spin forever off the line. Not as exciting to watch however. I should have the car at HAMB drags this year, so we'll see how I do. I hope to get into the 14s. Oh, and I have a Ford 9" rear now after I shelled the old one.
9.35@143 116.52 in 5.95 seconds in a blown small block 76 chevette street driven regularly. my all steel 56 chevy 350 4spd does 11.76@115.70 93.19 in 7.52 seconds
For Mr Banks to do that I'm figuring some AWD monster... it should be wild. I think the technology is there for it... on paper I imagine its feasable. He can obviously make enough power for it, but can he get it to the ground? Me, I've been as fast as 11.08 @ 124 in a 3400# street car. (not HAMB-friendly)
Keep Telling Times And Showing Cars,,when It Comes Time To Line Up Next To You Ill Know The Game.....unless Your Not Telling The Whole Truth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
13.42 @101.53 in my 3200# 31 Pontiac five window, early hemi w/ 4 97's. I'm dieing to get to the track and see what the 6/71 has done for it.
Well never had my car to a track Gtechs are supposed to be accurate.J/K No its about 12.5 @105 ish for my little old A coupe with a 355,lotta carb, big cam, lotsa compression,Th 350 and 4.11s but stock stall so I can't wait for the built 700r and 3500 stall should be mid to high 11's then
1954 Arlington,Wa. drags. 2550 lb. 32 coupe, 315 ci flathead Ford on av gas. 116.58, 11.70. Cl*** win. July 4,1954 Shelton,Wa. NW champ drags. 2400 lb. 32 coupe, 315 ci flathead Ford on av gas. 120.40, 11.36. Cl*** win. Also won the open road race against Gullwings and C Jags. All this was in the days when 115/145 av gas was 40 cents a gallon.
Ok so now its time for some *** to jump in and say that over a hundred you can't breath in a roadster or some BS. tred I'll never have the cash flow of mr banks but let it suffice to say I've never been fast enough and I'm still hunting for that magic number.
Last year at Moldy's Rat Fink Party at LACR....high al***ude racing netted me a best of 13.32 @ 98 mph. The old sedan ain't too aerodynamic but I did 8 runs back to back all within .25 sec. < this sled
well, my current ride (55 pontiac) i would venture to say that it would run the 1/4 in about 20 seconds or so. cars i had earlier in life (the late 80's) 71 chevelle 468 big block on nitrous...12.teens on street tires, 3:73 12 bolt posi. never ran it with slicks. 68 nova, 396 on nitrous...12.60's on street tires, with an open 3:08 10 bolt rearend. 70 nova, 454 on nitrous 11.90's on cheater slicks, with a stock open 2:73 rearend. 79 chevy citation, tired v-6 with the a/c on...18.70's all day long. that was a good bracket car.
12.6 @ 112mph in my T Bucket on Firestone cross ply's !!! My old 29A coupe with full on 406 FE went 10.6 @ 132mph (not HAMB friendly though) Street driven 55 miles to work every day until work saw the fuel bills LOL Steve.
not a HAMB type of car, but didnt the lingenfelter (spelling?) vette break the 2 second 0-60 mark already? i think it was on drag slicks but still a very streetable car, with a 3yr warranty too, not my style but banks should shoot a little lower... dont know how, but lower...
I can't find my timeslips, since I moved, but I do remember my old '69 Fairlane street/strip daily, being good for 12.80's, 12.70's on the right day...@ 105...I think my 60 ft.'s were around about 1.80... The best it ever went was 12.73, at 106...on Drag Radials... My '63 4 spd/ 390 Galaxie was good for 11.90 @ 110, at its best... My '30 Ford Coupe...well...I'll be finding out REAL SOON!!! and I'll report back...
We have raced our FED for 30 years, and last year we were able to run our first 6 second p***, a 6.99 @ 195 4.48 @ 157 1/8 and 1.07 60' Next weekend we will be going out for the first time this year and will try to do it one more time.
My Vette's gone a best of 611 MPH! DREAMING. My personal best was in a customers car (65 Vette) and it was 9.80's @ 138 MPH @ LACR, which is 2-3000 feet above sea level. This car ran 12 flat on motor, and 9.80's on a LOT of "squeeze" hooked to the horn ****on. What a ride having one hand on the shifter, and steering/hittin the squeeze with just a few fingers of my other hand
Not yet. I want to do a couple things before i make a p*** in it. First, and foremost is install a ****tershield i bought for it. When i was younger, i didn't give a **** about those things. As you get older, you realize your not bullet (clutch) proof
Alright, 1.5 60' and 7.26@ 90 1/8 mi. best p***. Had to put the Snap-on dealers flyweight daughter in it to get to #'s tho and it was out of gear @600' so the mph may be a little low. Single cylinder flathead, 5hp. Briggs&Stratton based, on alcohol. Kids have all the fun... Oh ya, a tick under 300 lbs. w/driver
Jeez, look at all those! Ya know, that's gotta be a kick for a kid, or anyone for that matter! What's that, the equivelent of low 11's in the full 1/4? I know a 1.50 60' feels pretty stout. So, to do that in a Jr dragster at that young age? I would've done anything to get that rush, that took me a lot more years to experience.
Kiwi Kev, I have seen a lot of Russetta timing tags in my day but that has to be the coolest of all. If I ever find an engine for my rod and get it rolling again, I will have to have one of those.
