This is really hard for me to decide. I have wanted to sell my 60 Impala for a wile now or trade it. I have dumped a lot of money ($37K) into it and I’m just to tall. I have tried bucket seats but my head still hit the roof. Now this guy from My hometown of Bakersfield wants to buy it.
BUT!!!! He wants to repaint it and make it a Muscle Car. A Full Billet NIGHTMARE!!!
It has a Beautiful 348 all stock and the paint is so nice!
He has had a painter come out and see it and its just Killing me.
He said that there is just no cowboy in the car. DUH!
I just been asked by Rick A. from Rod and Customs, Zombie, and Hank from Gasoline magazine from Sweden to shoot the car.
I have only took this car to 3 shows and it turns a lot of heads
But like I said Its Killing me to think that it will be GONE!
I just got a beautiful 58 Cadillac and I want to put the cash into that.

It all comes down to what you can live with. If the thought of selling the car to some one that you know is going to change what you love about it with no regard to how that makes you feel is ok, then sell it. Otherwise, try to find some one that is like minded.

SO sell it, but dont sell it to him! You have all the controll on who you sell it too. Make sure its someone that likes it as it is.

but actually if you sell it you have no controll over what they do. There are always cars that we sell that you regret later. Just make sure you sell it to fund something you will really liek, and you wont be hurt by it as much.

If he's giving you your price- and you can build the car you really want, let it go. Happened to me- the only bad day was when the new owners tracked me down to tell me how much they improved my old truck. It was famous on it's own and they destroyed it- but it was their truck now. I have other cars I'm more into now or I would have never sold that one.

Take the front seat out and set in the back.........sorry just kidding.
You could probably get a custom seat made or are you just making excuses to yourself so you will feel better about selling it?

wouldnt it be easier for him to start with another project rather than change everything on yours

  7. I have had this problem many a times. I look at it like getting rid of my lady. Its a great idea most of the time, and I might even be able to "upgrade" but overall I would be pretty bummed out about it.
I think you should just hang on to it, save some money, and have both!

    hope she doesent read this

  8. Hey,,,at least the guy is honest,,,if you get your price let it go.

I know from experence that when the car belongs to someone else it's gonna change. sometimes for the better,,often they screw it up in my opinion,,,but it's their car after the money changes hands. HRP

    Sell it on the HAMB!

  10. If you're happy with the price, let it go and don't worry about what they do with it. Very much like the people who let their cars sit out and rot--it's their stuff and nothing anyone can do about it. Like HOTRODPRIMER said, he is honest with his intentions. I hesitantly sold my '64 riviera to a young guy who wanted to keep it "all stock". Right... about 3 sheets of gold leaf, a set of 13x7 gold Daytons, and full hydros, I was heart broken. But still, it's their car.

If your mind is on another project, detail your 60 and take about 1000 pictures of it. Then get your money and move on.

By the way how tall ARE you? I know Impalas have a lower profile, but I am 6'6" and drive my '60 Elky really comfortably.

Tell your potential buyer that Groucho has a '60 Impala for sale and then sell yours to somebody who wants to keep it as is.

The rear seat floor pan is dropped for leg room isn't it? Move that further forward and drop the front seat an equal amount. Oops I just remembered it's an X frame car. Well - it was worth a shot. Frankly I wish I had my 60 back.

If you've been wanting to sell or trade it for some time, it sounds like you're a "project guy" (not a bad thing, I am too). It's all about building it, but once it's done, it's on to the next one. Kinda like chasing a chick... you've GOTTA have her, but once you do, you're looking for another. Hopefully you're not the jealous type that gets all mental when someone new drives her (car or girl). :D
Move on and forget it... it doesn't really mean that much or you'd keep it for life.
    Just a couple cents worth

The best time to sell is when someone wants to buy. You can't own all the cars you want at one time but you can own them all one at a time. Mike

i'd say keep him as a last option to sell to, there are alot of people out there that would cruise the car just as it is!!

  17. The new one may be worth it after all you got to way the differances and then sell it ,the 58 Cad is an iconic kustom and probably way more worth it. That's my opinion for what ever it's worth. Just think of a low skirted Cad with Watson style scallops and paint. wow what a vision. Rags

  18. YES, and i might be interested in yours. How much? Act fast. After Paso, my interest diminishes

Two of the last three cars I have sold ended up in the junk yard. I had a 60 chev impala custom that a guy wrecked. I didn't know it till I was at the local junkyard and recognized the 400cu in engine sitting in the shop area. So I can relate to your gut reaction, I had one but it is only short lived and then it becomes only a passing memory. If you really want to put the $$ in your caddy then sell. If you want to Keep the memory alive have a large photo made and hang it where the chev used to sit.
