Oh well...sorry Mac and Rene, but since i am not making Paso this year I just couldn't hold it in. You shouldn't make threats though.....it's not done yet
OK, So how much lumpia and taco salad do I need to make you? Seriously, Brewsir, I appreciate everything you are doing! It looks fantastic.
Any more pictures during the chop?, I'd really like to see how you takled the rear, the two doors etc.
We tackled the rear with blind faith that we could make it fit back together and a lot of relief cuts and tequila!
I think that's the key, the roofs on these things above the drip rails are so bulbous already, a chop with a full height crown would have looked kinda bald-headed if you know what I mean. Lots of extra work to do but well worth it I'd say. I also like the Shoebox grille bullet on a bar between the headlights, haven't seen that on a truck before.
OK seriously ...we split the header above the windshield and fabbed a filler piece, had to lengthen the area above the doors and without a second top , both of those pieces were pretty much handmade, then we made relief cuts so we could lean thearea from the drip rail up to the bodyline.....on the 53-56 panels that area stands straight up....now it flows a little better. Then we used the roof from a 56 (I think)ford sedan to fill the void. From about the doors back we simply cut out the supports under the roof, cut the top off at the bodyline and dropped the sides down inside the body....oh yea,we cut out the nice curved piece behind the doors and just put it back in after the cutting was going. By spreading the middle section we got quite a bit of the crown out of the middle of the truck. For the rear we cut the doors loose, removed the upper hinges, sectioned 2 inches out below the rear windows (so we could still have windows!) put it all back together again hand fabbing a bunch of filler pieces as we didn't have a second set of doors. For the top we had to lengthen the top and re-shape the rear curved sections and make filler pieces...then we used the rest of the sedan roof to fill the area that needed filled. We put the roof section on...decided which section and area to use and cut it to the right size, then traced the shape on the roof and cut a hole about 1 inch smaller than the filler piece (same procedure as we did on the front) Then layed it on top of the panel roof and welded it in place. Of course we did tons of bracing inside to keep everything square, and I left out some basic stuff....maybe Mac can post some progress pics as I didn't slow down to take any!!!!!
I agree 100%, most of the ones I have seen are too heavy looking above the windshield. This one is a great looking chop.
great job guys guess ill have to wait to see it in person since yas didnt let the cat all the way out of the bag, brewser your the man you make it look like its easy!see yas next week! oh ya ...about time yas choped that thing!
Here's a few more build up pics, and one catching Ragdoll molesting the back doors. Give that girl a welder and things get crazy. She chased the dogs around threating to weld their ****s closed.
Love it. That is a huge change for the panel and one of the best looks for that big truck. Great job, Mac, Renee and Brewsir! Jon
Thanks.....I am happy with it (hopefully Mac and Rene are too!) I can't wait to see it going down the road again. That and getting busy on the rest of the custom stuff Mac wants to do.....should be a killer kustom when it's done.
Lookin bad*** i really like how you two pose in the pic an act like you guys are doin all the work Rene told me whats really goin on down there. Hey at least she's nice enough to teach you guys....geeze Mac your old lady is the coolest! Hey maybe she can get Oscar in there and show him how to chop his **** !!!!HAHAHA That will be a cold day in hell! Good job all and i can't wait to see her in person see ya on Sat !!
Yeah she's alright. HAHAHAHA She had me inside watching the kid while whe was outside cutting, grinding and welding. Every now and then I had to run out and give her another beer. LOL I got the windshield in tonight and took it out around town to make sure that the top didn't come flying off. Now I just got to get all the other kustom stuff done when Paso is finished.
