And he's right.... They say that SanDeigo has some of the best and most stable weather on the planet. Slightly inland from there you can find some six car spreads.

    Denice,

Twenty seconds after setting foot out there I was convinced I wanted to stay. I was able to go back three more times last year for 2 months each trip and now it's all but cast in stone that we're headed out there.

I got to meet some fellow HAMBers and got to go to some of the best car events too. I'm convinced if you're a rodder, that's the place to be.

There's something inherantly cool about being able to drive my coupe EVERYDAY of the year. Here in Ohio that's pretty unlikely.

As soon as I get my computer certs and my wife finishes her MBA/CPA, we're packing our shit. And I'm DRIVING the coupe via Route 66!!! No trailers for me!!!

As some of you know, I work/telecommute for a small architecture firm in Corona, CA and work has picked up, so I might be out there again over this summer for a month or so. I'll PM those who I know if I get to come out again.

    Very True...
I have spent 33 of my 34 years in CA. When I was 18 I left to Ohio via a crosscountry drive for the first time ever. Wow! What an eye opener! It was August and I for one was not used to seeing the varied weather that would just come and go. I also remember the news talking about business' and schools closing because it was 80 deg. I thought that's nothing compared to CA..... until I walked outside... HUMIDITY!
We are pretty dry out here.
I am in Vacaville, which is 35-45 minutes from Sacramento and 55 min. from San Francisco. We had our home appraised last year for about $385K and this is a 900 sq ft 3bd 1 ba house with a 2 car garage. Older neighborhood but not a bad one.
My personal tastes are I hate Sac. I spent some quality time their today junkyard hunting. I am always happy to leave (sorry to all the guys in Sac, I know some of you love it but it is definitely not for me).
I do love to go to San Francisco, especially when they have really nice clear days. My family is from Novato (Marin county $$$$) which I would love to move back to one day but homes pretty much start at $600K for fixers.

I have thought of moving for many of the same reasons others have mentioned. As I get older I realize the grown up aspects more (taxes, school for kids, etc ). I really do like the Foothills area, like Auburn and Tahoe is beautiful. Santa Rosa is under the same thing as many other areas in Nor Cal though with development, etc. Nice area but a lot of times all the people flocking there and taking away the small town feel turns you off.

Our town also had a huge influx of people from the bay area which drove the prices up as well as the population.

Napa, Sonoma very nice as well.
Just find a community you can afford and see if you like it. There have been a lot of good reccomendations here.

I'm just going on the complaints I read from alot of CA' ers on this board over the years. (see Above) Of course Ca is the hotrod mecca. Thats no argument. But its common knowledge that the state is over legislated when it comes to the automobile. oh and by the way- Ive been thru every state and major city in this country at least 10 times on tour-not to mention Asia, Europe, Scandinavia, South America ..... lets put it this way: I have'nt been to Easter Island yet but if they build a stage -I'll be there..

  12. L.P., There are so many rods regestered here there are ways to get it done. My experience wasn't that bad, it depends who you get hooked up with at the D.M.V.

I was born and raised in California we moved here (WV) in '03 and I tell ya I miss it. Listen to me you'll want to live somewhere on the central coast Paso down to Buellton and you can even join my old car club the "Headhunters" out of Arroyo Grande. Year round weather 60's to 70's except for Paso and Atascadero then your talking 90's to 100's.
'Oh Ya don't forget you'll be paying for all the services illegal aliens use!

    Redding, Ca.
I've lived all over Cali, from Long beach to San Pedro to Santa Cruz and Salinas, then bought a house on 2 acres in the country in Redding,Ca. Fuck yeah it's hot in the summer, but its better than the fog and the rat race. Its affordable still and beautiful, clean, no gangs, no bullets flying around, and good schools.
    I'm here to stay.
    Max.

I've lived here forever off and on, and my wife is born and raised here. We love it. It is on I-5 so going north or south is a straight shot for your work. 4 hours to Reno, 2 hours to the Oregon border, 3 hours to Sacramento and 3 hours to Eureka (Humboldt county) on the coast. Not a good airport, most of the time it is easier to fly out of Sac. Summer heat record high is 118 officially, and hit it 6 times in the last century. Winter, once in a few years a tiny bit of snow falls in town. But when you miss the snow you can go less than an hour N,E, or W. Oh, and we have lakes and rivers, the fishing is ranked in the top ten for the country. Also hunting and other non car shit. When looking for a house, make sure it has central air not a swamp cooler. There are a lot of homes with shops for your cars, or room to build.

i'd say if your moving here, look at long beach or the city of orange, both are socal usually smaller homes are larger lots so you can build sometimes up to 10,000sq ft. lots
