i wanted to lower the back of the 51 a little more.... it already has 3 inch blocks but it seems like it is still a little to tall. the rear end is out of a 78 camaro and it has i think 5 leafs..... my question is which ones do i take out in order to get it lower.... thanks!!!

I always take out the shortest first, the long leafs give a better ride. You're really not supposed to remove any, the spring is designed as a unit, but I have done this to plenty of cars and trucks over the years. So far so good!

You could always take um off of the car and have any competent spring shop de-arch them. By the way, Have you C notched your frame? With 3" blocks, isn't the axle way close to the frame already? How low can you go without banging on that thing? I have a 51 Chevy too with 3" blocks in the back and would love to go lower.

  5. Something is definitely wrong here. 3" lowering blocks would not be sitting that high. I think you installed the blocks on the wrong side of the axle.

i'm with hotrod1940, that looks way too tall for 3" blocks! are they the stock springs? do you have any pics of the axle with the tire off so we can see those lift...i mean drop blocks?

is it just the rear end that is out of the camaro, or did you use the springs, and the whole setup?

Gotta agree, your car is way high for 3" blocks being installed! I don't have a pic of my 51 right now, but at stock height it wasn't that tall. Heck, I'm practically tail dragging compared to yours.

my '51 has the same rear as you and mine sits slightly lower with no blocks.

    something's wrong under there...

  10. This is my car back when I only had 3" blocks...

I like the idea of de-arching 'em, but if I was gonna take one out, it'd be from the middle. With one or two out, you should be pretty close to the bump-stops.

your saying the "rear is out of a camaro and it has 5 leafs." sounds like you have camaro springs and no telling how they are installed. i would be lookin at the way the springs were installed first.
