hello all, Ive got a beat up old lincoln in the shop (317 y block), owner just wants it to run, went through the ignition, all OK, if a little old and ratty, got it to run once, but now have run the battery right down and cant get it to fire again..heres the problem...originally its a six volt positive earth, but now has an 8 volt battery..how the hell do i charge an eight volt battery? a twelve volt charger doesnt work, i dont have a six volt charger, but dont think that would do any better? what will happen if i try to jump start with a twelve volt? dont want to cook anything..im not really up on the ins and outs of voltage and how it affects things.. some advise from an elec. whizz would help! thanks
the twelve volt charger i have just cuts out after a few seconds.. checked online and the only 8 volt chargers seem to be for golf carts? i hate golf.
You can jump it with a 12v battery all day long. Just dont leave it hooked up. I always charged the 8v battery in my 55 Lincoln with a 6v charger.
Here is a link about jumping with 12 volts http://www.btc-bci.com/~billben/12vboost.htm You can buy some cheapo chargers that charge 6v and 12v.
