I've been told that in oder to get a good rap sound after installing split headers you need to use nothing bigger than 1" 3/4 Dia. pipes. Since I have a new 2" existing pipe, I'm planing on just running the same size for new pipe for the new dual exhaust. My question is can I still get a good sound from these pipes if I put 1" 1/2 Dia. tips on them?

What's the difference between choking at the end of the pipe, verses choking it at the manifold? And what does that do to the engine performance wise?

I would run a pair of very short gl***paks ...maybe 14 inch (or whatever you can get) and mount them as far forward on the exhaust as you can. Should give you a nice rumble and a bark when you step on it. If you like it a little louder run the paks backwards basically it will be straight pipes without the sharpness.

the smaller the pipe the less flow it has, on the other hand you can go to big on some engines, what is your engine

split headers....i'll ***ume an inline? i have a fenton on my 235 and straight pipes....want a good 'rap'....go that route... make sure you have two good straight sections of pipe under the car incase you want to add mufflers at any time in the future.

Its a 235 (straight 6) with a welded-up stock manifold and straight pipes

  8. I'm running a 261 with Clifford split headers. When I first put the car together, I was running 1 3/4" pipes with Smitty's and 18" echo cans. It rapped at an idle. Driving down the highway, I'd go out of my mind! Now I've got 2" pipes with Dynamax mufflers, and it still has a good rap when I get on it. Driving down the highway is much more enjoyable too.

have you driven it that way? mine has been that way for about 3-4 year...and i wouldn't change it for anything, not to mention with pipes out the back you can easly have a conversation with the person sitting next to you....just sorry for anyone behind you....

I've got 2 in. pipes, cheap Speedway stainless gl***packs, Fentons, 235, pipes all the way to the back bumper. Rumbles at idle and raps real good.

Ok this is good information you guys. Just a note, when I said that I was running welded-up stock manifold and straight pipes, thats as of tomarrow. Thats why my questions were one if 2 inch would give me a good rap (question answered) and two, "IF" I put a 1" 1/2 tail piece (say a foot from the end) will I get basicly the same, higher pitched rap as I would have got if I had ran the straight pipes all the way back in 1" 1/2 (not answered yet) any more help is apreciated.
