Hypothetical question... dealing with a derelict

Let's just say I've got a friend who's next-door-neighbour is a crack-head X dealer. 3 derilect minivans and a non-running mulletmobile in the driveway along with the usual assortment of tools, garbage, lawn mower, snow blower yadda yadda. My friend doesn't give a shit about that stuff, live and let live. The problem is a non-running, no plates S-15 p/u on the street right in front of my friends house that's been there for months. Snow plows had to work around this POS all friggin' winter.

This is a reasonablly quiet, working class neighbourhood.

Cops have been called... nothing.

City Hall has been called... nothing.

My friend doesn't particularly want a war on his hands, and he doesn't want the asshole to get an insurance claim.

If this was your problem, what would you do? Hypothetically, of course.

 

Go out in the middle of the night and tow it down the street. Then the neighbors will have to deal with it. or else drag it back infront of the junky's house.

BTW we're the Limpnickeys on our block. Its just that our stuff is considered to be classic, sort of.

 

Make friends with a repoman or towtruck driver. $50 makes good friends and happy neighbors.

I was thinking more along the lines of throwing a dead skunk in it and Krazy gluing his doors shut.

 

Slimjim the door, pop in into neutral, release the brake. Push it back/forward so that it blocks a driveway, then call the cops. They have no choice but to have it towed if it is blocking the entrance to a driveway. Problem solved.

 

put a hole in the gas line and call the fire department that a truck is leaking gas. They get kinda bent about leaky gas tanks.

 

maybe you and your friend should just go over and ask the guy if he wants a hand to move it to his back yard or something? might be he just has his back up to make people mad now

 

Move to Texas, and if you have similar problems and they get violent with your ass... you can solve it with a handgun!

I called the city... 3 months ago. I even filed a written report.

My parents happen to live next-door to the mayor. They had a plateless vehicle show up in front of their house, called the city and it was towed within 3 hours.

I've asked nicely. I've asked not-so-nicely. My wife asked nicely and was called a "fuckin' bitch" for her troubles.

This guy needs special treatment.

Strategically place one lit road flare on driver seat.
Run like hell.
In about 15 minutes, Car-B-Q will be in full swing.
Fire Dept puts out fire, car gets towed away.

Offer him much less.Then scrap it.

It would be just your bad luck to get caught doing whatever you did to it.
So don't touch it.
Put the local police house number and your city councilman's numbers on speed dial and call them both twice a day until soeone does something. tell the cops or the fire department you "think you see smoke coming from the bed near the gas tank" if they get irritated, tell them the simple solution.

Maybe its got a police survailance camera in it... just a thought...

Keep in mind that:

Fires need oxygen to burn.

When people make too many claims on their insurance... they get canceled.

Jasco paint stripper removes paint in minutes and can be bought in a spray can.

Backing out a valve stem to the point where a tire(s) leak air isn't REALLY vandalism... or stealing.

Dirt and gunk in ones gas tank plugs fuel filters and can be a pain.

If that hose that connects your tank to your filler neck leaks... it can ruin the environment. Make sure yours is tight.

Some people don't trust rubbers.

"Work" gloves protect your hands when you work... but they only last for one "job".

Credit cards are the devil... use cash and you won't go into debt.

Trust only yourself.

One thing to remember is this, drug dealers rely on people fearing them, but they all want to avoid dealing with the cops if at all possible and will usually go to great lenghts to avoid such encounters.

You might consider knocking on the guys door, playing his "nice next door neighbor" and telling him that some plain clothes detectives came knocking on your door earlier asking a lot of questions about "whose S10 is that, what do you know about them, etc." and were acting like the vehicle was involved in a crime. Furthermore, you lied to them and told them you didn't know who owned it. Then you suggest to him that he might want to move it into the back yard or get it our of there as it seems to have aroused the suspicion of the local police, who (of course) told you that they'd be back to ask more questions.

He might just move the truck AND think you did him a favor.

 

Id probably try to buy it off of him. then you can doi what ever you want with it...

Here is an idea ask him nicely if he would not mind moving it.

 

if it has no plates on it, it will not be insured, so any damage it incurrs will not be covered.-pour a litre of oil under it, call the fire dept, say it is leaking gas -play dumb when they come- it will get towed-the road flare idea is good, but consider if an arson charge would affedt your life in anyway before doing so

 

Call the cops and tell them you think he keeps his stash in the truck cause he makes a trip out to it every time someone drives up to his house. Or place a sign on the windshield that says "Free truck, take me home!"

Otherwise, call your town friendliest impound yard and ask them to advise, and whether they offer anonimity.

Actually, I should be more constructive...I guess.

Here's what I did.
Next door neighbor, single white female mid 40's......having mid-life crisis. Decides to try and "save" the troubled youth of Oklahoma by taking all of them in. There are little thugs all over the yard. Drinkin, smoking, dealing, all out in view of my kids. These kids range from 8-24, none of them worked. They all stayed up through the night and slept while everyone else is at work. Same basic scenerio as you, you don't want them to jack up your stuff while you are at work etc etc.

I tried everything....the only thing that worked was this.
I rallied all the natives to call the police annonymously and complain about excessive traffic(read drugs)and befriended the local policeman in this area, told him the situation and he agreed to keep an eye out since he worked nights.

Eventually what happened was the IMPACT drug helicopters and unmarked cars came knocking....the search of the house, the questioning, the surveillance, eventually they started thinning out. Every time they would be in the front yard the cops would show up and start asking em who lives here etc. They got real tired of it. It's been realy quiet now for 6 months.

 

What you do is you call the cops and say something along the lines of..."I saw a supecious looking character open the door on the truck, take out a bunch of bags of white substance and something that looked like a handgun (remember its a 5 year jail sentence for a handgun in Canada, no questions asked)then this person went into the crack heads house and hasn't come out yet. Do it anomously and I guarentee as soon as you say the words "handgun" and "drugs" in the same sentence you will have at least 4 squad cars there and dogs with in 10 mins. I know because thats what they sent when I called them when my neighbours house was being broken into. So anyways you will get the cops up his ass and they will also make him insure the truck or get it towed...problem solved
