can anyone recommend a good place to have a speedometer repaired or possibly walk me through it, its from a 52 chevy car, the odometer works but the speedo doesn't, i already took it apart to see if it was something simple, but no luck.
I can't think of the name of the place, but there's an outfit that restores gauges, they're the same place that can convert 6 volt gauges to 12 volt. They might be able to help you out. If you do a search, you should be able to come up with something. The other option would be to find a speedometer out of a donor car. Probably be the least expensive, and the quickest route to take. I bet if you put an add in the "wanted" section, you could come up with one in no time. Good luck.
yea, i keep my eyes peeled on ebay, but they seem to go kinda high for my blood, and i would imagine having one repaired would cost even more. i was hoping someone would be able to chime in on how to fix 'em, can't be that difficult. i'll give the wanted section a whirl
Here is one place that repairs and rebuilds old gauges. I built the big Super-Brakes for their Carrera Panamericana race car. They did a good job building the race car and were great to work with. I haven't bought gauges from them, but they seem to know what they are doing. http://www.autoinstruments.com/index.html
On my 54 was doing pretty close to the same thing and i was told that the little plastic dohicky that swivels sometimes breaks but seems fine when you do it by hand. I got a replacment insert and it did the trick. make sure you use the graphite stuff with it. BTW mine came from O' rielly auto part and cost like 4 bucks. Hope this is helps cause it is much cheaper than the alternatives
i'll take a gander at it again and see if i can figure out the little plastic piece you're talking about. unfortunately we don't a have an O'Riely's anywhere even close to here, maybe napa would stock such things.
