It's not limited to primered cars either,my A coupe is done in dark grey PPG single stage urethane, not show quality by any means but I think tastefully done and pretty shiney for a driver, had a soccer mom walk up to me at rhinebeck this year and ask me if it was the "permanent" color. I just answered yes and laughed it off, whats the use. I have also had the nice roadster comment a couple of times ( it's fenderless and hoodless ), Even had a kid at a gas station tell me "now thats a real hot rod, I've always wanted a T Bucket", go figure.

  2. I am still amazed when someone sees the '34 roadster pickup(half-built, but the body, doors and all, IS on there)and see the '41 cab, that is also in the driveway(for the next project) and ask "is that going on there?"

  3. Aw, man, don't you know???? ANYTHING that's lower than stock height is a lowrider?
Just yesterday, at the local McDonalds, a guy stares at my Harley(RoadGlide) and says in a know-it-all tone, "nice bike"...."looks like a lowrider"....
    I know, I know--Harley made a thing called a lowrider.......but it didn't have a fairing and saddlebags

Really, the question that irks me most(and usually comes from people who know me and my occupation)--------

    "did you paint that yourself?"

Jesus-Christ-on-a-bicycle! I own a body shop for Pete's sake!!! Who do you think painted it????? Sometimes I just tell 'em I got a KILLER deal at Earl Scheib's :p

    Questions & comments i hate.

My plymouth,. The one i keep getting is "you should fix it up and sell it".

My beetle. You should put a V8 in it. Why doesn't it have a radiator?
Is that a 65? No its a 72.How much did you pay for it? I Know a guy who got one for free.

But i love it when older people tell me their stories.

Tow truck driver who had just told me about the late 60s bronco that he was making into a rock crawler (so at this point I'm assuming he knows something about cars) looks down at my 235 in-line 6 and asks, "Is this a 327 or a 350?" I said "huh?", a couple of times to see if he would realise what he just asked, he didn't!

Could be the guys that think my Studebaker Lark is a Rambler. Or the ones who say how long since they have seen a head like the one on my Plymouth four. Yeah I guess so. I only made one. Or the people who ask where I bought the hot rod parts for the Ply. But the best one was a younger guy in a gas station who was telling me all about Bonneville. Said he had gone there with Rich Fox when he set the record.

I have another one, some 16 year old kid just asked me, about a half hour ago.
"What kind of system you have in this"
Referring to the sound system I'm assuming.
"I don't need a system" was my reply.

Most of these aren't stupid questions......a stupid question would be.."Is this your bowling ball"???......why not give the citizens a break, most are just curious and actually want to know if you are going to paint it, or if it is a v8....and I'm pretty sure an inline 6 could be a v8....or a bowling ball.
