I'm trying to finish up my wiring in the '38 & I'm down to the little stuff. I need a few voltage drops for my gauges & a 6 volt fog light I'm running. Can anyone point me toward a good little drop that won't cost me a fortune? I understand that I would need one for each gauge right? I found these two, but just by looking at the pictures, I can't see how I would connect the wires to them. They look like they are made with 9 volt battery plugs on them... http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=ECH&PartNumber=IR7&Description=Instrument+Cluster+Voltage+Regulator http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=ECH&PartNumber=IR8&Description=Instrument+Cluster+Voltage+Regulator I saw Mart's on his website & they look like nice little parts. I wanna ride this weekend though. Thanks, JH
You just need an LM7806, which you can get at any good electronics supply business. Three wire hook up. 12V in/ground/6V out. Mart is using essentially the same thing, but he installs them on heat sinks. Each one will carry 800 milliamps, so they won't work for the fog light.
Probably won't find anything that is a resistor that will work for fog lamps, sorry. Dropping 6v produces a bunch of waste heat with a resistor, and with a fog lamp's amperage it would be a bunch. Maybe a power transformer would work? Question for the electrical engineer types - would hooking up two 6V lamps in series work?
if each will carry 800 milliamps, just figure out how many it will take and use that many for that circiut..just put all the 12v together and all the 6v outs together and of course the grounds..
