I have the opportunity to trade my '67 bug for a '49 cadillac series 62. My bug is my daily and is bulletproof and I can do all the work on it myself. The owner of the caddy says is can be a daily. What do you guys think. I drive from Long beach to oxnard/ventura every weekend. 90 miles each way. Can the cadillac handle all this driving and how long do the engine/trans usually last? Also what kind of milage am I looking at? 20? or close to that? bigger tires and different rear end. Its not gonna be a race car at all just do 70-75 and thats all.
Cadillac builds great motors. Honestly there's really no way to tell. We don't know how many miles are on the caddy mill or the car itself. What state the vehicle is in. Etc. I can tell you this. My 53 caddy ran all day long. I drove it quite a few times to work and what not at about 100 miles a day. It made a couple long runs over around 300 miles each way, etc. Me personally...I wouldn't trust it to do a daily commute with unless it's rebuilt and other parts (brakes, etc) have been gone through as well. Mine does anywhere from 9 miles a gallong to mid twenties. I'd plan on somewhere around 13-15 with this car. Not exactly a commuter car.
Was that the green one on the SAMBA? I was looking at it also but I'm up north and my bus is not running, (stalled midway project). My wife would crap if I got another car that needs work right now.
sure is. Im gonna drive over there tomorrow. They say it has a bigger 350 (im guessing 362?) in it with low miles and that the guy they bought it from used it as his daily and drove everywhere in it. If it doesnt need any mechanical work and can be driven anywhere as is I might consider it.
If you don't mind can you pm me w/ details. If you don't want it I'd like to call on it. If you do want it just brag! TAI.
