There I was with my red flag and camera slowing people down that were getting too crazy. This poor girl thought she could handle the mud and came up the bank and about a foot from the inside fence. You want to talk about needing some paper I almost pooped myself thinking I was going to eat her bumper. I have a new found respect for those people who work down on the race track. It was nice seeing old friends from out of town and meeting new ones. I don't understand why the guys from NY hate purple sweaters. Bad Bearing BobK and Maggie I'm glad you two made it out and have a new story to tell. Well lets see some pictures. Larry and Kim what can I say? Great time and I didn't get yelled at but the pills I put in Larry's drink must have helped me with that.
Was that the black car the jumped up the bank? i just caught it while walking over to the musuem. I thought somebody was about to pay for some fence, I noticed you were flagging right there later in the day.
Jr ...here's a pic of you flogging Mr Yuk. The other picture is a little confusing who's winning car number 5 or car number 5?? For some reason the owner of the blue number 5 wouldn't give me the keys to it
Any chance you might have the shot of my sedan in a higher resolution? If you do and are willing to send it to me here is my e-mail address: Turner75@comcast.net
I saw that car spin up onto the hill. I was walking near the metal bridge. I would have shot a photo, but was carrying a radiator. That car came very close to eating the inner fence. Glad no one was hurt! Thanks for posing the photos, Fat A. I will post my photos tomorrow.
29 sedanman...I'll email you the pic and nice car. racer5c...I heard you coming down the back stretch hot and when I could see the car there was no red flag coming your way. It was nice to see it sideways through part of the corner. The blue number 5 cheats he keeps telling everyone coming up on him to slow down!
Does anyone have pics of the gals spinning out? My gal was riding shotgun in that ford... I think her ass chewed a buttonhole or two in the seat..... I was along the main straight and got a pic of them coming through the mudhole there and getting a bit sideways.... As bad as I feel for them scaring the crap outta you on turn 3 ,I gotta say it was great to see a couple of gals get out there and try and run the track... (next year hopefully it'll be with radials under the car instead of bias plys, and a little less lead in the foot ) Thanks again to larry and the rest of the crew for putting on such a great event!
Muggs...there were quite a few girls out running the track. I think the girl in the back of the car had the worst of the ride. When I got next to the car it looked as though she was getting herself up from the floor. They had a much better second lap. There were a couple other drivers who managed to get off course and leave the track a little. I don't think there are any pictures of it because everyone was running away from the fence.
Carrie(the gal in the back) laughed the entire time! It was a good time had by all. Haha! She gained control and had a good run. As for the guy that thought it was a good idea to torch the fence with his flamethrowers....well, that's another story. Maybe it was allowed. I don't know about all that. But all in all the event was a blast.~Sarah (Passenger in the 54 Ford)
Don't ask me why but seeing a bright and shiny 49-52 Chevy convertible running around a horse track in the mud just doesn't do it for me. The early cars seem at home there.
FIrst off no one asked you, and second it's not a horse track. I happens to be a vintage dirt track that is part of a musuem nearby used only for this show once a year and some exibitions during the year. Lastly BobK is one of the coolest hotrodders I have ever known, and he looks right at home on the track in Lattimore.
Sir, you obviously don't understand... and I feel very sorry for you... it isn't about the vintage or year of car that travels around, it's all about an original dirt-track, used for what it was intended for... and for car owners to have the time of their lives and to paraphrase what my fellow Flyer Roger (74) said after taking a few laps in his roadster "this was one of the best day's of my life, I haven't been sideways in 40 years!" it's reason's like this that this show is so special...
Trust me, we dont do it for you...we do it for us. Just stay in your parking lot and we'll have the fun. The last CAR races there were 1940.
This old race car track I'd bet was a horse track. I was looking at a book of local PA history of my town and it had shown pics of plenty of horse tracks. There are two other race tracks, The Fabulous Lincoln Speedway and Williams Grove are still open with lots of history within a half hour of Latimore. That Chevy may not have done it for you but Bob had a grin from ear to ear and wasn't afraid to blow out another bearing. He also drove it here from Wisconsin with his wife and beat it up on the track.
having just read flyin roger's quote brought goosebumps on my arms... very kool. yes. very kool, indeed.
According to Lynn Paxton the track was actually first used for horse racing as were many of the early race tracks, he should know his uncle built the place. But kids kept sneaking in with their Model t's and racing them at night, the owner got tired of chasing them out and started having car races instead of horse races. That said if I could only go to one show a year this is the one. The people who put the show on are as great a bunch as you will ever meet. The feel of the place is like no where else, the museum is incredible, I have never seen so many people having so much fun as I have the two times I have been there. I think last weekend might have been the highlight of his life for the older fella in the Flyers.
If that '51 Chevy Vert looked bad then that T-Bird really looked bad. I'd drive my '63 Bird around that track just for the fun of it and I don't think it would hurt anything, I have to clean it every now and then anyway.
Junior, that sounds pretty kinky if you take it out of context! Someday, when no one is planting soybeans anymore, I am going to make it to this show....
haha Roger is way young at heart and a blast to hang out with, he was just happy to have had so much fun at the track... you'll notice in pictures (which I should post) of Roger going around the track that his wife was sitting right there with him, hood up and all... when asked if she trusted him she said "why not".. haha.. and no worries, I'm pretty sure you'll see Roger there as long as he has his 4-banger.
Funny..it didn't FEEL bad...actually, it was fun and I don't give a shit how "out of place" it looked. Spike
Aaron aren't they supposed to switch what they plant every year? The next year they plant corn I guess you'll make it! Soybean burgers suck! Rand Man...I'm with you on the action. A little mud wont hurt you.
Ya Know it was comments like that that make me nuts... I have been reading Rolls and Pleats and drooling over some of the crazy car shows over there.. Hill Climbs, gravel pit races and things like that.. and here is one of the coolest events on the east coast and someone who hasnt attended it knocks it.. from texas, because he didnt like a car in a pic... I would drive across pa (5 hrs) for a one day event like this and then to cruise back on rt 30 to home at least twice a year if they did it more than once... yea there are dragstrips across the nation.. but to get the opportunity to run your old car or custom around a real fairground horse/car track?? Where else is it going to happen but in Latimore PA?
