I was browsing through the classifieds and came across an add for a 59 Edsel Ranchero and thought it was a misprint. Well as you can see I was wrong. Does anyone know production #'s on these im curious? Well I thought I would share these:
No these didn't come from the factory, Edsel never made a pickup. But I've seen loads of Edsel "Rancheros" over the years... which makes me think the Edsel front clip is probably an easy bolt-on.
I saw that on ebay. I've seen several done with 58 Edsel front clips on Ranchero's. Some even used the Edsel SW tail lights. I was impressed with this one due to the completeness of the illusion. Other than 59 Edsels being ugly, I thought it was a nice job. Back in the late 50s and early 60s there were quite a few of the car to truck conversions. You don't see it done as much anymore. This is my all time favorite. All the proportions are perfect. That's hard to do when cutting up a sedan to make a truck out of it. I always wanted to make a 61 El Camino. I'm not sure they made a 2 dr wagon in 61. That would complicate things.
Yeah, the front clip is an almost perfect bolt-on. I had a friend who did one in the early 60's w/a '58 Ranchero and a '58 Edsel front clip. I thought it was pretty sharp, maybe because I liked the looks of the '58 Edsel, or maybe just because it was different. .......Ole Pork
That one on e-bay is well done. It's not just a front clip. It has all of the Edsel trim, rear panel, taillights and bumper, and even the Edsel dashboard and stock upholstery.
Edsel and fords... Interchangeable parts bonanza!! I have been snagging parts off of a buddys 60 4 dr edsel ranger for my 61 2dr post fairlane... Brake assembly parts.. interior trim, exterior trim... Hell He selling the glass out of it to a guy with a 60 ford 500.... great resource for parts.. albiet rare and tough to find an Edsel guy willing to let you take parts off it for free.....
The car in the ad is a 59 Ranchero with Edsel sheet metal, neat old guy that owns it too, used to live right across the alley from him, we'd drink beers and swap lies while I was building my 29 roadster.
Our club president built this one and has a chopped top wagon in the works. He even changed out the dash and other Edsel components inside the cab He has had it at Salina and Dewey meets. Larry CB_Chief webmaster; http://www.okchristianrodsandcustoms.com
Yeah, that's what they look like. Kinda looks like the old girl's puckerin' up ta kiss ya, don't it? Nice truck....Ole Pork
I luv 'em all! That '58 is just plain baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad........ But the craftsmanship on the '59 looks really good as well. Love me an Edsel, man.
Here is some more pics, I dont know why I didnt, but I should have put two and two together and answer my own question, but the rear of this one is what threw me off. It certainly fooled me at first glance.
