Hello from Italy i am planning to attend the Hot August Nights in Reno . What should I expect regarding vintage clothing and forniture, old rods and rock and roll music? Or will only find musclecars and hi tech rods? I have never been there and need some suggestions and feedback. Thank you
its mostly muscle and high tec stuff, and cl***ics. vintage hot rods are few and far between though. the swap meet is really good though!
With close to 10,000 vehicles in and around Reno for the week you'll find just about everything. There are hot rods to be sure, but a lot of grandma cars too. There are free concerts and reasonably priced margaritas (in Sparks).
take in h.a.n. for a couple of days & head for bonneville on thurs or friday they overlap this year.about 400 miles east of reno.great showing of "about 150" traditional cars. your more than welcome at the alviso roadster party on thursday nite.its about half way inbetween.pm us if you decied to head that way
right...go early in the week and get out of town by friday. Thats when the donk rolls in. Good shows around town, but expect about 10% HAMB friendly cars. Cool vintage clothes at Rad Betty's...Vintage furniture is pretty slim, but we've got a lot of thrift stores you might get lucky at.
I was there 2 weeks ago and it looked to me like every Friday and Saturday night is Hot August Nights with all the street rods and HAMBERS {looked to be anyway} , Harleys cruising by Harrahs all night on the band street. I was listening for motors from the 14th floor. I remember a channeled A sedan & an early Willys g***er going by and a primo 32 roadster I saw on the way from the airport
Bring a bullet proof vest!!!! hahahaha.....you can roll 50 Cent style with all the gang bangers that infest the streets. I remember a couple years ago when they had a riot and flipped a bunch of hot rods over and whatnot, then on the way home there was a high speed chase on the shoulder of the freeway that ended up damaging a couple nice rides too.....thats when i stopped going. Not worth the headache in my opinion.
Avoid downtown Reno. Go to the Atlantis, Peppermill, and ex-Hilton now Grand Siena. Downtown Sparks used to be a great spot, but is now over crowded with people. The swap meet and the car auction are nice. The auction is next to the Atlantis, and you can stroll through and look at some neat cars while in air conditioning! Saw Reggie Jackson there one year and Ken Osmond( Eddie HAskell) as well. There are so many cars to look at, it is hard to take it all in! I'm not sure if they still do it, but they were having a semi truck parade cruise through downtown Reno on Sat. night which ****ed!
I didnt see any Donks, boxes or bubbles last year. You must have been there the ONE year there was some trouble. It was the year a couple of concert promoters scheduled rap concerts at the same time as HAN. It hanst happened since. Last year was a good time. LOTS of all styles of cars. The Swap Meet rules. here is some video from last years swapmeet and cruise.... Quicktime 7 only (~19 megs, right click and "save as" play back from your hard drive). http://www.californiamotorsports.tv/videos/2006renoswapmeet.mov
