I just put gas in my fuel cell and where the fitting goes into the tank leaks. I have tried teflon tape and it still has a small drip. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks Keith

I use teflon putty, made by Aeroquip. It's not called putty but I am at work right now and can not think of the actual name.

they make a teflon tape that is pink. I believe it is called PTFE. It will hold up to gas. You can get it at the hardware next to the white tape.

Maybe just me, but I wouldn't really be comfortable with fittings that leak and only teflon tape is holding the gas back. I'd suggest that you investigate why the leak is present and then seal a good joint with the proper teflon tape. Just my 2 cents.

Good threads and Teflon tape should hold gasoline with no problem. Suggest you take things apart and look for cracked fittings, etc. We are talking pipe threads, right? Tape on a straight thread flare fitting won't help much at all. The only cure for a flare problem is to make the flare right. I have been known to lap them with fine valve compound and a s**** fitting to get them to seal. If it's a pipe thread, the air conditioning people use a paste called leak lock. That or the proper loc ***e product should also work.

I found that the standard white tape will not hold up in gasoline.

I used the pink tape and it sealled it and has been that way for over 6000 miles.

I agree that the only way to fix a leaking flare is to fix the flare.

Great tip on lapping the flares. I am sure I will have achance to try that one some day.

I went to the hardware store and they had some yellow teflon that said on the package it was for gas. They also had the pink and on the package it said it was for water. I bought the yellow and I will give it a shot. I will also check the threads first. Thanks Keith

I just use off the shelf Ace Hardware pipe thread sealer on anyything that might need it.
Don't use teflon tape on anything in a fuel system.I have seen too much of it in needles and seats and nozzles over the years.
In fact I dislike it so much I gave away a whole sleeve of the **** just so I wouldn't ever get tempted.LOL Teflon Tape ****s.

Aircraft supply houses have a product called "***eseal" that is an anti-seize and high pressure sealant that works well. Also thare are seals for AN fitting flares called "Del seals" that fit on the flare and seal minor imperfections.

Keith, I have never seen the yellow. Just curious, does it say for GAS, or Gasoline?

Let us know if it works.................

It may work but it's made for GAS pipe fittings, not Gasoline.

YEP!!!! And alot of guys wrap the teflon tape on the fitting in the wrong direction, so when the fitting is installed, it unravels the tape......DUH!
I use the teflon paste (Loc***e, Permatex, etc) EXCLUSIVELY on fuel systems.

The yellow tape says gas. I got to thinking that it must not be for liquid. I have some teflon paste I used on a hydraulic pump I repaired.

The yellow tape is for gas, as in natural gas or LP gas.
