I am ready to pull the 235 out of my 53 but there seems to be no good place to hook up chains to pull it any help would be great.
Here are a couple pics from when i pulled mine. I basically just found a spot on either side and went to town.
also i think the back of the motor because if your pulling it with the trans you can pivot it up in front and it balances the weight of the tranny.
This may sound scary to you, but. When i bought my first GMC the junkyard had a piece of angle iron drilled to fit over the two valve cover studs. Had holes for a Chevy and GMC. Had a piece of a coil spring welded to it for a loop to hook to. Worked great and I made one which I used to pick up lots and lots of GMC sixes.
Thanks for the input I ended up using one bolt from the water neck and one from the exhaust. This thing is friggin heavy with the tranny hooked up still
I would be embarrassed to tell you some of the oddball places I've put a chain on a stovebolt six, cause I was too lazy to loosen two headbolts. I would also be embarrassed to tell you some of the results.( ya know, them bell housings break real easy when dropped from a few feet up) It doesn't make a lot of difference as long as it is balanced the way you want it and secure. The common sense about rocket science like this comes w/old age. In all seriousness just make sure it will support the weight, and no one gets hurt...Ole Pork
i did the motor swap in my 53 about a week ago and i used the rocker bosses like some one mentioned earlier worked like a charm
