Im looking at buying a 55 Cad Hardtop, i was just wondering if anybody else has a 55 Cad and what they've done to it. Im not partial, mild or wild, lets see'em, i need some ideas.
Here's my Kustom. I was inspired by Johnny D's CadStar but wanted something more traditional that a shmuck like me could build. Sorry about the ugly dude in the pic, he follows me everywhere
I went to go check out the car in person today, it's in really good shape with only two very small rust patches. The motor wont turn over but the guy hasnt been trying to hard to free it so im confident that a could start it. He's asking $3500, which i think is a good price, what'd you guys think?
It'd be nice to have some pictures, but that seems like an alright price by the way you described it.
Seems to me like $3500 would buy you a driver...not a project...my bro's '54 cost $1200 (pic attached) ...and it was running...stock 331" and automatic...of course, it didn't look like this when we bought it...we had to do body, paint and interior... And for anyone's info...D'Agostino's "Cad Star" (above) is a '54...not a '55...it has a '55 front clip on it. I have a '55 Coop DeVille I'm building...it has a '78 Trans Am sub in it...and a 500" incher...it's nearing driving stage, but am attempting to build a radiator for it...and have driveshaft and wiring to do yet...no pics as there's nothing to look at at this this time... R-
By the way, I have a link on craigslist to a really nice, running 55' Caddy 2-door hardtop for sale in California. I have the link saved on my other computer, so I will post on here in an hour or two when I get onto it. I think the price was in the $3000-$3500 range. It sounds like a good deal to me. You should check it out.
I saw that one for sale in the HAMB cl***ifieds. I wanted it so bad, but it got sold to you within an hour of it being posted. What a steal that car was.
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/car/335499310.html I think this is the one your talking about, if so then yeah, thats the one im looking at.
Hey guys, here is my '55. (2dht) On the subject of prices... I bought this as sits for $4500. I had to beat a LOT of people to it and I was lucky to get it. The guy had like 12 calls the night he posted on CL and his ad kept getting flagged... wonder why? He told me he was not going to be home to show it until the next evening. So, I had his name from his email, looked him up on the county tax records and found his address. (being a realtor is a help) When he got home from work that day... I was there with cash Yeah, kind of odd thing to do but while I was there he got a bunch of calls from ****as who wanted to come see it. (he told me in his first email that he gets home from work around 4:30 and would be available to show it around 5:00-5:30, I was waiting at 4:00. I was lucky. (well, kind of self made luck) It was rusty, had a beater interior but the motor ran well. The ****** was slipping but it was a driver and 99.9% complete. I just sold it a few weeks ago for $6900. (I did not put anything into it) I'll buy another one soon, this one was a little rusty for me. I want a nicer, stock one next time.
I saw that one for sale too, but the one I found was a running/driving '56 in black primer with flames on it. The interior was pretty nice too, from what I can recall. It says the posting has been deleted by the author on my computer, but see if the link works on yours: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/car/333741308.html
I just found the one I was talking about. They guy must have taken it off from Craigslist so he could list it on eBay. It's at $4000 right now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cadi...ategoryZ6146QQihZ010QQitemZ200111273817QQrdZ1
Damn, that things a beaut, hate the wheels though. That would be perfect except that its in so-cal, little far for me, would be a nice road trip though.
here's my 56,it has a caddy 500 motor,it doesn't have any rot Hoping to be driving it before the end of the summer.
I don't like the wheels either, but they are always changeable. This one seems like a better deal than the one you posted pictures of. I'd go after this one first, but that's just me.
Yeah. The one closer to me, i can tell he wants the car out of there as soon as possible, im sure if i gave him $3000 cash and showed with a trailer he'd be more then happy, i'll look in to the one down south as well.
I'm cheating a little because mine's a '54, but there's a "little" similarity. Bought it 1-1/2 years ago for $1900 with a frozen motor and a nice coat of surface rust--have about $5500 in it now by turning the wrenches and spraying the paint myself (yeah, there are a couple of runs, but those are raindrops in the picture--it doesn't **** quite that bad!)
