that looks like it came off of a 50s-60s british sports car, think Jag, Triumph, MG, Austin Healy. I could be wrong, but it looks strangely familiar. The lower control arms and upper knee action shocks/control arms look alot like MG midget, only bigger.

Isn't that the original suspension for that car? It looks like the one under a 36 Olds a friend of mine owns.
I see nothing non-stock except that funky rack and pinion steering??

my only defense for not knowing it was the stock stuff is that I have never worked on early GM cars that still had the stock suspension in it. I only get the cars that someone did a hack job on and want me to fix it.

That's why I was asking where it was grafted.

but yep, I can honestly say I have not much screwed around with a late 30's pontiac (or late 30's anything, for that matter) that had not been screwed with somewhere along the line.

    on to the next question-
does it have a disc brake conversion on it?

Looks exactly like the stock '36 Olds frontend that a friend has.

Yup.. just confirming the stock stuff... I got a '37 Pontiac slantback sedan. if you want lowering springs for the front Eaton Springs gottem' they used my stockers to get the spring rate data, and sent me a set.
Just checking... would you know anyone with extra chrome for the hood laying around. got anyother questions, or want reference pics lemme know, I know of 2 other local boys with '37 Poncho

Yes it was the disc brakes and the goofy steering rack plus the fact that it was chromed years ago that lead me to beleive that it was not stock. Thanks for all your help! I am still looking for a drivers door for this 37-38 pontiac coupe

Is that a hydro shock built into the upper control arm mount?

Yeah, a knee action shock of sorts, GM did this quite a bit in the 30's, as well did other makes. Im lookiing into the potential of adding bags that would replace the coils... any thoughts on this? my main concern being if the bag blew... theres no other secondary support

Bags would be easy enough. You just need to ensure that nothing touches them through out the suspensions range of motion. If you lost pressure, it would just sit down on that bump stop. Pull the coils and set it down to see what you have to work with. If you can get bushings, etc. to refresh that set up, I'd run it. Even the shocks.
