Very cool tech. I noticed that one of the comments on the instructibles site mentioned the line of sight issue, and claims to have used a large rectangular tupperware container, with large flat sheets of metal down the sides to avoid that problem. Due to surface area, the voltage had to be turned down to avoid too much current draw through the tranformer. I'm wondering why a plastic container to start with? Why not use a steel drum or box, (with some coating on the outside for electrical insulation)? That would eliminate any potential for line of sight issues, and probably be fine with a transformer capable of handling high amp draw (such as a 200/400 amp battery charger/starter). Two other questions, slightly related - do voltage or amperage affect the speed of the process, or can too much of either start causing loss of base metal?

The problem with a metal container is that your anode gets "eaten" away during the process and thats why everybody uses plastic. If you do use a metal container then you're anodes will have to be isolated from it.
