Last summer I discovered Gumout carb cleaner takes it right off with out damaging the paint. I wouldn't let it sit on it. I just sprayed it on and wiped it off.

what ham-boned-ford said... yep WD-40 take off road tar too if you let it set on there...

  8. I got nuthin for ya if your running suede good paint.

But if your running shiney paint kerosene works wonders. That's pretty basically what bug n tar remover used to be and it did a good job on sap also.

I dunno about try Gumout or WD40. I swear by "Goo Gone", smells like oranges, and its never not worked for me. Also Cut that tree down and build a garage with the wood.

Try a piece of ice, freeze it, then pick off.

Lots of the manufacturers that make professional detailing products make a tree sap remover. "PRO" is the one that comes to mind, but I know there are others. They sell you a 20oz or so bottle of the stuff for $12 & it is %100 rubbing alcohol.

SO....go down to the drugstore & get that 20oz bottle for .97.

    Cheap, plentiful, & works great.

3M degreaser/wax remover work's too, if you have some on hand.

  14. The Big guy that invented tree's, invented water soluble sap! other wise there would be 6 inches of sap under every tree. don't even need soap

Well, that was my point when I posted. Why in the world would you want to use a petroleum based product on a water based clinker? Stu

I've found pancakes tend to take care of any maple problems I have.....

seriously though, any of the above should work fine. Soap and water is good if the sap is still fresh, otherwise I use alcohol

Try a clay bar. You'll be amazed how dirty your paint really is after rubbing it down with one.

  20. A lot of these suggestions sound good for maple tree sap ,but if you've got pine trees, the only thing that works is gasoline.

    WAX!

Wax is an excellent bug, tar, and tree sap remover. Why use questionable chemicals when the best thing for your paint (wax) works great! You're gonna have to rewax that area anyway once the harsh chemical is used, right?

I scond the Goo Gone. Pretty cheap for a big bottle at the WalMart. Works great to remove decal residue, caked grease, bug guts, tree sap and line paint (when the wife crosses new lines) if you catch it early enough. Straight Simple Green works pretty good for all the above also.

I'll be over with some 80 grit and show you how its done.

  28. I've used finger nail polish remover and then buffed the area, but if you got the patience you can use alcohol.

use very "HOT" water with something like dawn dish soap. be carefull with the solvents like wax an grease removers, or gas an such. i`ve been custom painting for 20 years and had a guy who brought me a motorcycle tank that he had literaly rubbed the paint off to the primer with solvents to get the sap off, i washed it off with very HOT soapy water, then quoted him a price for repainting his tank. "carefull"
