Ok so here's the deal Project is 50 chevy p/u put a 4-bar setup with coilovers on a 9" in the back.Up front 3" drop axle and posie parabolic springs(3 1/4" drop). Now im trying to decide the powerplant use, here is what I have to choose from in the shop. 1. rebuild the 235 chevy retaine the headers,4 barrel clifford intake(or the 2x1 Tatersfield or the 3x1 offy),HEI dist. and put a cam in.Hooked up to a T-5 that I have. 2.Put in the 327 sbc that I have with a turbo 400 Or 3.Put in the low mileage 57' chrysler poly 354 hooked up to the turbo 400. Would appr. the H.A.M.B's input Thanks
All good choices ....... but the 354 Chysler is something you just don't see done....and that's part of what Hot Rods are all about..... so that 's what I vote for !
I had the same dilema for my fiddy fo and i ended up building a rad 230 six for mine. Did not want a sbc like most everyone seems to do. I vote fot the 235 BUT, the Plymouth motor would be best of both worlds... differant and kewl
How about a 4.3 ? Sounds like the inline, lighter than the 327. With the overdrive, it might be super economy ride.
I appreciate the input, looks like it is leaning towards the 235 which does not hurt my feelings any I like all the engines that I have just a diff. choice. If I go with 235 in my 50' chevy, then that leaves the 354 chrysler or the flattie I also have for the 34 3 window coupe and then just a choice of the flattie or the 327 for the 39' sedan. Thanks for the help
If ya use the weak 235 with 3 carbs yer gonna hate it as when it is cold it is a cantakerous son of a B-----. Do the poly as it is seldom seen.
Polyhead. Save the 235 for the coupe (I'm ***uming you are gonna run it fenderless). Stovebolts look great with a four barrel and split headers that are wrapped.
Is the six going to accelerate well enough for you in that car? If yes... then yes. If not, then 327. -bill ps: you could always donate the 354 to a poor SOB in WA...
