She'd probably rather that I be on ebay selling shit.

I show her the really funny posts and she likes looking at the cars (except maybe when I made here read all 550 posts on the "show me your wagon" thread).

She also told me to quit posting all the stuff in Mexico or someone will come and get it so I guess she's into it.

  2. When we got married and moved to Montana, I sold my brit bikes, 62 bug and 50 chev truck to be sensible, buy a house, start a family. I made her sign a receipt for the proceeds agreeing that "I would get projects to be named later", Its well worn but I still have the receipt in my wallet. When I bought my 52 pontiac and started getting pieces for the 34 truck she made me sign the bottom "paid in full" - we will see, I'm not done yet. She has since labeled the 52 "the other woman".

The firm I work for doesn't have a single wrench turner in it, so I lead this double life.... after 5:00 I change clothes, head to a local shop, lend a hand, drink beer, bench race and tell lies. The suits in my office will never get it and look down their noses that I'm not shmoozing clients at the "petroleum club".

My "other half", Flower, is a lurker here and enjoys all the tech stuff. Since she builds and fabricates her own projects it's educational for her. She also gets a kick out of the little skirmishes too (aka Groucho-Hon tiff). We are slowly meeting alot of HAMBERs out there as we attend different shows & cruises but we are both pretty low-key as far as that stuff is concerned. She is convinced that Kiwi Kev is a genius too.

I hear "you are either working on that old crap or reading about that old crap". She's coming around though. She had a good time at the meet n greet at blktopbandits place last weekend. Slowly but surely I guess.

    Really????? Imagine that :D

As far as anyone giving me grief over surfing the HAMB....won't ever happen. I haven't dated a non-car guy in YEARS and the last 5, including current, have been HAMB members so they completely understand. If they didn't understand they'd get their walking papers.:D

My wife and I are older so she has a take it or leave it kind of attitude. I bought the '63 Bird so we had something nice to go to cruise nights and shows, the '59 or the '56 beaters kind of embarrassed her (she didn't make a big deal about it just a small comment).
As for the H.A.M.B. she says "I need a life"!!! Could be worse!

  8. Mine doesn't realy care as most of the time I'm on at work or after she goes to bed.

i'm quickly turning my girl to the dark side. she enjoys learning about how and why stuff work and is patient with all the time i spend on here and loves the pics. best part is that i'm getting her to want an old car. she does mary kay and is close to getting a free car, but they will just give you money if you don't want the car so it's looking pretty good that she's gonna get a '59 rambler wagon that's pink and fake wood paneling. told her it'll be great advertizing since everyone will notice the car and look :D

My wife gets stoked on seeing me share my enthusiasim for all this stuff with my son's (3 and 1 years old), loves seeing us sitting together reading through my new magazine. She enjoy's going to the shows and cruises as a family. As for the heap of rust in the garage that I'm working on, I'm not so sure she can see my vision of shiney custom but she supports it and puts up with a lot of noise coming from the garage and listening to me talk to myself like a madman.

  11. My wife said get off my computer it's important! she needed to look up tickets for August, not now but August, I said just for you dear. That's because if she's not happy nobodys happy, well you married men know what I mean. Above all have fun, Rags

  12. My wife ought to be awarded "Wife of the Century". We have been together 32 years this June and she has always been supportive of my old car habit. In 2001 she suggested I build a shop so the garage is available to park everyday rides. End result... I have a 30 x 40 commercial steel building in the back yard equiped with shear, press brake, Tig and Mig welder, Air Compressor and all those other great guy toys.

My wifey is one of those "Cloak and Daggerbust you for screwing up" types, and I'm one of those "too dumb to cover up after myself, so i try to just not screw up" types.

after I got out of the Hospital last year, I figured out how to operated her I book, and also figured out that someone in the neighborhood had wireless. (thank god.)
so she comes home, and checks the history...and i see her getting mad. then she clicks around and started laughing.

I had been in the hospital for over a week, I checked my e-mail, and promptly read a weeks worth of the H.A.M.B. She was pissed until she figured out it is a Car site. she thought I spent 6 hours looking at porn.

that's the Irony...Porn is fun for about 15 minutes. The Hamb, on the other hand...hours of endless entertainment.

  16. My wife doesnt say a thing. I guess thats cause shes on here too and owns a 46 ford project gasser!!!!

My girlfriend is a little jealous of all the time I spend working on my car and thinking about my car, but she loves spending time with me doing anything. So, I put her to work, she gets tools for me and hangs out in the garage and talks to me. Now specifically about HAMB she absolutlely doesn't like me staring at this screen until weee hours of the morning. It could be also that I have some other hobbies that keep me on the computer, I am kind of a big geek so I am here like all day but anyway, my girl loves helping me work on mine and after mine is where I want it and we are married she is gonna get one of her own. i really think my girl is way better than yours. she loves cars of all kinds but especially vw's. we're building one of those cali-vw-convert-rods (whatever that is) she has an old mid-year vette and a 48 chev pickup in beater fashion.
she cooks really great for all my hangout buddies and is always there to help lift a heavy door or whatever for mounting on a car. never complains about time or money spent on the cars and pulls down a 50 hour a week job in an advertising agency.

if there was ever a need to clone a girl for the happiness of car guys everywhere... she'd be my pick. i love that girl!

and if that's too sappy for you... i don't give a rat's ass.

  21. Mine dont mind anything I do, as long as I dont do it with anyone else. She knew going in the car thing was more than a hobby for me, its a lifestyle. So no bitchin about the rods, projects and old heaps or oxidated yard art. She is learning to weld, making some industrial art from scraps and rebar, and also learning how to run some other machines.

The ex wasnt like that, she bitched and moaned about anything I did car related, and she knew going in as well. That is why she is an ex.

my wife gripes when it's keeping me from something (or someone:D ) else, so I try to find a time when she's occupied, or on the phone, which is often...how many years has it been now anyway for the HAMB?

Instead of the big guy telling what he thinks I think, I'll tell it myself. I've always been into cars. From the family 56 Chev wagon, the 62 Bonneville wagon the sisters Renault Dauphin, Monza,Belvedere and MGs, their bf's Model A Roadster. He let me drive it down the driveway and I took out some space-age curb lights. My eyes really bugged out when my father came to the roller rink in a 63 Avanti, pale yellow w. black int. What we Stude owners continue to hear ; what is it??? He was trying out the fastest and most beautiful available and ended up with the 63 Riviera. He taught me to drive in a BRG MGB (let the engine do the braking, foot off clutch!, downshift!). When trading in the Bonne wagon, I convinced Mother to buy the pretty turquoise one...68 Firebird 400. At our first date, Rick drove a 49 Caddy, I had a beetle bug. After I rolled it, with him in it, he built me the 46 Ford ton & 1/2 Panel truck. We were apart for a lot of years and now that we're back "with", I revel in the car-ness of it all! Thrilled he does what he does and that includes the entirely too much time spent on th HAMB. Also that he got me the 53 Stude I drive every day - same color as my father's Riviera. Love, Sally

She did not under stand until she got her 53 Belair. Now the only thing she rants about is I smell like fuel when I drive my coupe.:D

  29. Nah, she thinks you smell like gasoline, man. Fuel is NITRO and everyone loves the smell of Nitro in the morning.

My wife hates the cars and hates me talking cars on the internet.

I keep waiting for her to get over it, but she still bitches about it sometimes.
