Hey All, Trying real hard to get my car running again in the next month. Putting in the "new engine" trans and rear this weekend. Almost time to paint the outside. Someone told me that sometimes HAMBERS will photoshop photos to give ideas? So I am looking for paint ideas. I have no budget really and am doing the paint myself.....so within reason. I was thinking silver metal flake roof with like and eggplant body color and silver outline scallops fading into purple? Yeah and i have never done this before so its kinda a pipe dream! Bad photo but the car is in pieces now so this one is old. Right now I am running original Steels with mini moons the Kragars are gone. Also here is a picture of how the bay turned out. My first time ever using a spray gun! Thanks!
I think a semi flat pearl purple and a silver flake roof would look good, chrome steelies and thin whites.
Thank you! Yeah I just got some whites for it too. The fact that I can even think about paint other than flat black is kinda amazing but I am in it this far I mine as well go for it! Thank again All... 58Fridge100....Kinda hard to believe... but I dont have a better photo of the side than those two. No digital camera of my own.
Hmmm... Okey Dokey. First things first. go pull those Cragars out of where ever you stashed 'em...They're *****in and rare. second, before you pick out a body color, you need to ***es how smooth the body REALLY is. Darker colors tend to show off the stuff you don't want to see.so, (I cannot tell from the pics) you may want to consider the body color before being real set on it. Silver is reeeal forgiving, by the way. The engine bay looks *****in! Good Job! Pat yourself on the back. My suggestion is avoid the fades. if you're gonna Scallop the car, scallop the damn thing and call it a day. but if you're goin for "killin it"...try this. do the entire body in Silver. Specifically, Orion Silver (it's a house of color mix) then, after you get it all sprayed out, go to bed. When it comes to spray day, post a "how do I not tiger stripe Silver" post and read every single response...before you shoot it.) the next day, get out your fine line tape, a cup of strong coffee, and a tape measure. and lay out the scallops. at this point, you will have already picked out what color Candy you're gonna shoot them in.want dark purple? dark purple candy it is.tape off the car and work SLOWLY. consistency is the key. and Candy, for all of it's glory, is *****y about flash times. once done with that, pick a couple of the scallops to make a bit darker, tape the rest off and do 1 or 2 more coats over those, giving you varying shades of the same color. Go to bed. Next morning, pull the tape. and clear the piss out of it. while letting the clear "do it's thing" clean up those Cragars, and sand the center sections. paint the center with the orion silver, and lay "mini scallops" over those. candy them in and clear them. Presto! custom wheels you didn't pay anything for that no one will ever steal! basically, I think silver with Purple Candy Scallops (or whatever) would be *****in. what do candy Scallops look like?
Lux Blue you rule. But alas I had to sell the cragars so i could finance my car. They did go to a HAMBER though so I guess thats makes it a little better and they are going on a pretty rad car....but i still wish I had them. Thank you so much for your post. It really helps cause paint is a whole new world for me! Plus you made me laugh which was well needed today! Rjgideon thanks for doing one! So cool that you can do that! Its proably good I dont know how cause I would get obsessed with trying every color combo and then the car would still end up flat black!
dont get in a hurry. Paint is a big step and if you screw it up color wise with todays prices your kinda stuck with it till you get a whole lot more money saved. Especially if you had to sell the cragers to finance the car. Post some better pics and ill bet the photo choppers out here will help you. Dave
?What was deleted? Thanks for the advice. I will get better pictures this weekend. Hopefully i will have the engine in and back together enough for a photo! Thanks again to all
That car is just asking for a banna yellow, top to bottom with lite yellow rims with moons and call it bnana peel it would look good to alley
Having just worked on not 1, but 4 "nanner yella" 60's fords, I have to say avoid that color at all costs. it's called something sweet like "springtime yellow" but let's face it, it's "pee in the toilet "yellow. if I never see it again, it will be too soon. you sold the Cragars...it's okay (sniff sniff....sob.) what to do? paint your steelies. again, orion silver, then do either the inner (preferably) or the outer (watch out for wheel weights) in the candy, throw on a trim ring and blingy chrome lugnuts and call it a day. steelies are cool, but they don't have to be boring!
If you need help when it comes to "spray day"or help on tips to get it ready to spray,PM me.Ill give you my phone # and help all I can.I own a body shop, and I would like to think Im pretty good at paint and body....lol.When it comes to paint color and design,I allways say to each his own.If it were up to me,I would paint every car in the world BLACK.JMO....lol EVIL
Good advise from LUX BLUE but I wouldn't use HOK paint unless you know for sure what is under your primer. Take a HOK catalog color chip to your PPG paint store and have them mix you some Omni paint. Easy to work with and much CHEAPER! Charlie
