Hi guys, got my 330 Desoto Hemi delivered and Im happiness filled. Now for the tough questions anyone go the work on hydraulic lifters? I gather Chrysler Desoto and Dodge use the same lifters and you can use late model ones if you use the correct pushrods. Will get some adjustable ones. Can you use the LA lifters (318 360) or do you need the B/RB lifters? Yes I need to get the Tex Smith Hemi book but I though I would try here first. I have a new set of LA lifter with a cam I was going to sell but if they fit I would keep them. Cheers and thanks for the help, Peter
The early "B" 413/440 lifters work in all Chr. hemis. According to parts numbers in Lundquist's book they should work in The Dodge & DeSotos also. Doc Fromader in a 315 Dodge build on Webrodder used 318 roller lifters, so I guess they will work too.
Thanks George just read that dodge build on webrodder, excellent article. I guess the best thing to do is slip a LA lifter into the block and measure it up to ensure the oil holes line up. Unfortunately the motor I purchased didn’t have any lifters with it. Seller made me aware of that before I purchased it. Could get someone to measure a stock one at some stage. Thanks again. Will keep the new old stock Mopar performance lifter for now as they are quality, I hear some horror stories about new lifters causing problems
When I rebuilt my 331, I had the old lifters & the new early 413 to compare. They are not exactly the same, but they work!
The bottom end is the same as the poly motors of those years.Same parts. The pushrods and up are the differance.
I understand that the Desoto 276ci is on its own when you start building one of these beast. That there is not much of anything old to actually help cross over in the builds. And the worst part is that the cams are a taper design. That is the forward end is smaller then the trailing/ last bearing block. Not like modern cams in their designs. Has anyone ever had there early hemi line bored to use a new modern cam design? Maximo
"Tapered"? If the forward journal was smaller, I never would have been able to pull it out the front with all the rest of them I replaced as an apprentice! (1957-1961) Only cam align-boring I ever had done were to Ford Y-blocks and 273 Dodges, pre-1958.
