dude's, i see that ccp is making dropped axles for ? these days by welding axle ends into tubes. is their a reason you can't take late model(73+) ford truck, van twin i-beams cut the ends off and reweld them into a tube similar to the ones offered by ccp? there must be some structural reason for not doing it or everyone would. i'm a safety minded person and welded parts need to be done by professional welders only. had a subframe bust loose on a 50 ad truck years ago and was lucky it happened at low speed. just thought it would be nice update for a 55 ford f-100. feedback please! thanks
I've also considered it, but the axles are not very attractive.. They Use balljoints, and are a little klunkie lookin.. I've welded forgings, and they take it very well, and the ford ends should do fine. Wouldn't hurt to take a shot at it though..Be interesting..PA
CCR--the T Bucket people, not the band---Have instructions on how to fab up your own axle. I've always wondered if it would be workable using some late model spindle/disc, drilling the BJ holes for pins, and use the CCR design as a guideline.. Eaiser to find/cheeper, and additional web at the spindle boss as the pin would be a little longer?? The more weld-the better.. PA
