Hey everyone, I have been a fan of the Jalopy Journal for a long time. This is my first time to post anything. Here are some pictures of my 1930 Ford Coupe I am in the process of fixing up with a co-worker and his dad. I just want to show that a person can really build a car for a reasonable price. About two years ago I was totally burned out from work and in need of a hobby. One day I found a copy of Rodz and was instantly stunned by what I saw. Living in a small farm town without any near by car clubs I didn't know where to go; my dream of fixing up an old car went on hold for several months. That was until the day I made friends with a co-worker and found out his dad was an award winning restorer of Model Ts and Model As. A short while leter, with his dad's help, we found a 1930 Model A in a farmer's field and assorted parts in a barn for $5,000. Two years later, with very little prior experience of my own, and about $2,000 spent at swap meets, this is what I have created. My Dad was drag raced cars and motorcycles in the 1950s. At the time he owned a Signal gas station in Olympia, WA. He told me lots of stories about racing, but didn't have any pictures to share because he had lost them all in a divorce. What I was trying to do was to recreate the basic idea of what he might have driven. Right now I have a 4 banger in it, but I have another rolling chassis with a running flat head I am in the process of . The plan to drive this summer with the 4 banger and by next summer have the body on the other rolling chassis. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x258/SpeedDemon_13/DSC04697.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x258/SpeedDemon_13/DSC04694.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x258/SpeedDemon_13/DSC04695.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x258/SpeedDemon_13/DSC04676.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x258/SpeedDemon_13/DSC04669.jpg
Looks like a lot of fun! Just be sure your enthusiasm doesn't outrun those mechanical brakes. They need to be in top notch condition and adjusted correctly at all times.
Nice build you made too old men feel good agean your dad and your budys dad i no,cuzz iam one to. its good to see that us old timers left something thats still of value in this country thanks for keeping it alive my hats off to you keep up the good work now find one for your buddy. alleyoop
Welcome to the HAMB,and thanks for the pics and the story about how you got here.Beautiful car(like those b&w pics),looks like a great build.Have fun. Why not find another body for the v8 chassis, that way you have a car to drive while you build another?
I love it. To me, that's nearly perfect. We all have our preferences. Nothing at all against other preferences but I far prefer that over the ones sitting on the ground.
Very nice. The Model A enthusiasts & restorers ought to like it. Fwiw, I see you're using Photobucket. Instead of doing the copy and paste bit on the top choice that says, URL link, select the bottom choice that says IMG code. What'll happen is, instead of getting an address to click on, the pic will open in your post. A nice feature for the troops perusing the post and photo's. A small example: This pic: http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f278/C9x/04-17-078-1.jpg Is this pic opened when using the IMG link:
Love that car. Wish I had a friend to help me find and build one like that! Keep the 4. Welcom to the HAMB.
Very sweet!! I love the "I can drive across the field to elude the authorities" stance. It screams jalopy and I mean that in a good way. Looks like a lot of fun on a small budget but I'd agree about staying on top of those mechanical brakes.
Here are some more pictures. First are some pictures of some Model As in my co-worker's Dad's shop where I do all of the work on my car. Next are some photos of what I have done so far with my flathead project. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x258/SpeedDemon_13/modela.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x258/SpeedDemon_13/4.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x258/SpeedDemon_13/2.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x258/SpeedDemon_13/3.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x258/SpeedDemon_13/DSC04450.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x258/SpeedDemon_13/DSC04528.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x258/SpeedDemon_13/DSC04530.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x258/SpeedDemon_13/DSC04536.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x258/SpeedDemon_13/DSC04539.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x258/SpeedDemon_13/DSC04540.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x258/SpeedDemon_13/DSC04543.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x258/SpeedDemon_13/DSC04542.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x258/SpeedDemon_13/DSC04530.jpg
Or drop a T roadster body on the banger chassis after the swap I have been considering something like this. With a decent A chassis I could have my coupe on the road in a month and drive it while I build my V8 chassis.
Cool car! Nice pics! You gotta think about doing something about all that day light under your coupe; lower it! But, that's just me,...I'm afraid of hights. Lol.
For the image inpaired. CNTL - H (find replace is your friend). find replace with [IMG]

Wow, great car! I'm working on something very similar (1930 Tudor). I love the exhaust set up. I've been dreaming up something very similar, looks like you used the original mainfold? Anyways would love some close ups of the exhaust setup if you have any. Thanks again for the pictures and inspiration!
Nice car! Love the 4 banger. I'd love to see more of that gas/service station. I wish I could refrerbish one of them for my art studio as well as a place to put and work on my automotive toys.
