My neighbor had 25% of his garage burn a couple weeks ago. Like a proper scavenger, I've stopped by for lots of small talk to watch the repair progress. Today's small talk involved "hey can I have that air compressor in the dumpster?"

So why is an old compressor worth pulling out of the dumpster? It's a two stage 175psi cast iron compressor with a newish 5hp motor. And it's only 5% damaged. Couple switches and gauges, and it'll be purring along. But this weekend was pretty well shot with cleaning, teardown, and repaint to avoid perma-BBQ smell. Car projects got ignored, but this really for their own good anyway. :)

I hate working on non car stuff.

Got ready yo go to the Primerrun III and broke the trans in my truck!

Pulled it out, then drove my late model to the show. Had a great time, now gotta tear down the trans and see what happened! At least it happened 2 doors down instead of of our in the desert.

The late model is my '65 suburban.

Friday Played hookey from work and finished the floor pan for the digger.

Saturday we went to the Nostalgia Drags at Thompson

Sunday trimmed up and welded in the "doubler" strip for the tailpiece - took the better part of the day to fit and weld it - I guess I'm just plain slow.

But hey - progress is progress!!!!! I'll take whatever I can get.

Think I finally figured out what to do to finish off the back of my abreviated sedan. Welded some 1/4" rod to get the shape and tacked in the corner pieces. Will have '49 Ford taillights somewhere when done.

I'm light on Rods at the moment, still finding my feet around here so to speak. I work next to Danbury airport so not far from you at all, love to hear about any upcoming events here or in neighboring areas.

Fired up the Merc and took it for a shakedown ride around the block...

...in fantasyland. I lost power at 11:30 last night after spending 1/2 the day at Billetproof, then sat around wondering what the hell I could do without electricity. Laptop battery dies after watching "Pulp Fiction" for about an hour and ten minutes.

Bottom line? Go somewhere else! Power didn't come back til 7 PM tonight. ****ed. I think we rely WAY to much on electricity unfortunately...

  13. Went to a car show. Had a guy tell me my car is rare. then looked like he got upset when I told him Im making it into a street rod a kid would have owned back in the late 50s early 60s.

I also built a Fisher-Price My first Lawn Tractor Power Wheels for my nephew who turned 1. He loved it!!!

Also made plans to take my 15 yr old cousin to a bunch of car shows in NJ/PA this summer.

Welded up a portable vise stand so I can sand trim parts without filling the shop with junk. Sanded the spare tire well and painted it in the wagon. Stripped the back half of a Riviera (OT).

Saw a friend (semi-drunk) drool over the Grandville imagining himself cruising with the top down...he's gonna buy it, we both know it. You know the look...you've all had it...when that one car gets in your brain like an ear worm for a song and that longing won't go away til you own it...well, he's got it.

  17. Nostalgic Dave, you shoulda turned the motor for the rotisserie off before you left the garage... it looks like it's still going. :D

Lessee, simultaneously chased tropical Storm Barry out of Tampa and helped a HAMBer move get his T to Riverview for paint, and made a very cool pit stop. Thanks Matt, Tim & Jon! It's the best thing my 4 cyl. Rodeo will ever do (Yes, those are FL smoothies on my trailer).

I dropped the trans pan in my t-bucket for a filter/gasket change and found metal grit hiding in there. So I pulled the trans and swapped it for another one I had.

  20. alcohol disolves the sludge, I do this to every old car. drop the tank pour a gallon of alcohol in and shake it ( I hang mine with a rubber hold strap in each corner duct tape all the holes flip it all around several hours then pour it out and add fresh alcohol and do it again.
I tape a small funnel to the carb end of the fuel line and add alcohol put a bucket under the tank end and add air, soak, air, soak,

I brought home this. I won it on ebay for $200 along with a whole bunch of parts. Best part was it was only 30 miles away. I also started posting all the parts I don't need or want back on ebay (to get the $200 back of course).

I also shuffled all my cars around so that I can have space to put it.

    Other stuff I did included:

Cleaning the garage floor, went to Juárez, grilled some steaks out and emptied out some cans of "Steam Engine Lager"

Friday night I put the new trans and shifter in my 64 Impala wagon. Saturday went to Super Chevy Show and scrounged around the swap. Saturday night I put new U-joints and center bearing on the new drive shaft for the wagon. Sunday went to the Rock and Roll Monster Bash in the wagon. It was a long fun weekend, and the new trans made a hell of a differance.
