I'm going to meet with the guys from Beaver Springs Dragway this week to get all the details on tech rules and other stuff for the show Sept. 29th. I want YOUR input on what cl***es we want to run. I dont think we want to get too deep into splitting cl***es up, but wadda think? Show we do them like you do at Mokan? Too much, too little?...LMK
Hi larry I'm curious on the tech inspection......what can run and what can't, roll bar limitations, speed limitations. I'm not to hip on cl***es but maybe by engine type/cubic inches. My buddy is looking forward to running that blown y-block sedan is he going to need a driveshaft hoop? I honestly can't remember if we built one on it or not.
This will probably depend on how many participants you get. roadsters coupes rails banger motors flatheads small blocks bigblocks modifieds just throwin some ideas out there. later shawn
Lets just go out there and have fun. How about a roadster cl*** and a coupe/sedan cl*** and a guys with bad*** race car cl***? Or how about a tallest wheel stand or hard luck award? What about motorcycles?
some quick ideas - roadsters - flatheads/bangers roadsters - ohv's coupes/sedans - flatheads/bangers coupes/sedans - ohv's dragsters/altereds - flatheads/bangers dragsters/altereds - ohv's g***ers - super stock - stock - at the end of the day - cl*** winners run off? - jr. eliminator - stock, roadsters, coupes, sedans? top eliminator - dragsters, altered, g***ers, super stock? could also break the race car cl***es down into "old comp" and "new comp" as to whether they were old cars brought back out, or new purpose built cars - just my thoughts - know you'll do it right - "cacklefest" sometime during the day with the race cars?
Jeff....click on the link at the bottom of Larry's post. It should give you all the info you need. It will be at Beaver Springs Raceway in the fall. BTW...you should really take your grandfathers car off of your avitar... Clark
Hey Larry, I work with "The Big Dipper" Josh he asked me to post this to you. He said weight/cubic inch for the cl***es. How are the cl***es at Mokan? Take care,Smokey
I have been telling momma that I wanna go to PA sometime. I have never been up that way. This would be a good excuse.
Is this A 1/4 mile? And if so do I need A roll bar for my roadster, I think this is the biggest Question. Till now I've only been able to run 1/8 with no roll bar. Jared
It is a 1/4 track, but we'll be running 1/8...I cant see 1/4 mile away! I know from prior discussions with the owner, you will need a roll bar in a roadster to even run the 1/8. Thank the insurance company. We'll have fun no matter what. Zombie and the other guys at Rod & Kulture Illustrated Magazine are my big sponsor. Swap area, camping, and all the other hanging out like the spring Jalopy Showdown.
Larry.. please dont get all hung up on cl***es.. I am for all out grudge matches all day.. Please no brackets/dial in's or other ****.. just two cars.. a tree, and 1/8 mile.. THAT would be cool..
I'm with Sawzall and FatABone......keep it safe and simple. Have the best of this, the fastest that, slowest this, long haul awards or whatever you'd like but using specific cl***es can be a pain when your trying to interpret a cars cl*** at the gate or staging lanes while the owner may have a different opinion.....Basically, the fewer cl***es you have the fewer whiners you'll have to deal with. Use typical 'trophy night' rules most NHRA/IHRA tracks use and lets just run them off. Seat belts and helmets should be mandatory. No leaks that hit the ground when its running. Secured battery. Proper amount of lugs on each wheel (no broken studs). Got slicks or DOT stickies? Gotta have a loop on the driveshaft. Open cars have rollbars. Stay in your own lane. Have FUN. -Bigchief.
What BigChief said sounds good, but...does something like a flathead powered roadster really need a rollbar in the 8th mile? I think that would exclude alot of hot rod roadsters. I guess the track owner has final say though.
As for cl***es I suggest the following to keep it simple -Stock Eliminator -Little Eliminator -Top Eliminator I think you should group racers into these broad categories and leave it up to them to find a close match-up. That would work ***uming everyone was there to have a fun heads up time, and not smoke slower cars. I belive thats how Mokan is run.
Sawzall and Big Chief are right on the money. If your gonna do flag man starts, you can't bracket race, and cl***es require alot of extra work. Also someone will always feel like they're being screwed with cl***es. P*** saftey check then grudge run your heart out, and have fun.
I remember in Hot Rod a few years ago they had a convertable barracuda project and had to put a bar in it when they hit the 13's.
