Ok so im trying to figure out how to set up my suicide axle on my A sedan. Id like to keep the frame horns i dont like the chopped off look. I'm gonna Z the frame front and rear (haven't decided how much just yet),i'm in the process for dropping a model A axle about 2" and i have a stock A wishbone that i'm gonna split. Anyone got any ideas? I think i'm gonna mount the spring behind the grill and weld hangers to the wishbones. I would have welded a tube between the front horns (i'll probably still do this) to mount the spring but i think i'll have to Z the frame too much in the front to do this. I'd like to keep the front Z to 4" or so. Any one got pics of a suicide setup with the stock frame horns or any ideas?
Here's a couple pics. I didn't Z the frame but wish I did for interior room. The first pic doesn't show a front crossmember that I installed under the engine to strengthen the front frame. This setup puts some stress on the frame it wouldn't normally see.
yea something like that. looks good thanks for the pics. I think i'll put the spring mounts on the wishbones so i can get the u-bolt plate as low as possible
use the stock cross member and definitely mount the grille in front of the spring. It'll look so much cleaner when there is an axle then the grille. Springs aren't that pretty anyway!
the term suicide suspension meand that the front axle is hung out in front of the car with no frame over the top of it. If the spring of hanger breaks, your frame etc. eats pavement. The way your talking you want to do a spring behind axle setup with frame horns. I would build a flat channel front crossmember for an aftermarket reverse eye drop spring. Mount the spring hangers 3" or so behind the axle on the bottom side of the wishbone. You will have to make a relief notch in the frame horns where the axle will ride up in front of this new crossmember. Kind of like in this pic, but with the spring hangers mounted closer to the axle, and frame horns added. You will be able to heat and bend the arms so they fit below everything if needed. Comprende?? Im better at doing it than explaining it. ROB
DollaBill that set up looks sweet nice engine mounts and all the speed holes kick ass. Rob Paul i'll probably build a setup similar to that thanks everybody for all the info and pics
