    Hey all.

Years ago, in a pinch I used an Iowa license plate as a heat shield for my starter. It's actually still there. :)

Let's hear and see some pics/stories of other "creative" heat shields... come on guys, I know you have 'em! Who hasn't used a wad of foil on a fuel line before, you know?

I wrapped transmission cooler lines with aluminum foil where they ran closest to the header. It was after a roadside repair, but the foil stayed there for months.

Multile layers of foil (about 20, folded up) make a damn fine heat shield, and don't look bad to boot, if you do it right.

couple simple things to do first- 1, make sure any electrical connections are completeyly covered.

    #2, make sure it's tight.
#3, cover it up or paint it.

I use this stuff when welding to keep from scorching stuff I don't want to scorch.

it's funny this came up. I'm about to post a how to on doing mandrel bent exhaust yourself, and I use this method while welding.

    stay tuned!

  5. I'm looking forward to the DIY mandrel bent exhaust post.

    Thanks,
    Kurt

After setting the interior on fire for the eighth time during the dual-master swap on our '58 Olds, I grabbed the big Costco aluminum foil roll and covered the floor. No more smoldering fires from the grinder wheel...

My favorite ones were made from tin cans of the period with nice art work. Prince Albert in the can comes to mind. A rusty license plate with an early 30s date is another. I keep my eye peeled for tin period advertising to cut up for things like this. Perfect cans bring bucks but less than perfect ones can be had on the cheap.
